'Creating Futures Together'

CAREERS IN YEAR 12

During the Year 12 Focus Day on Thursday 2nd February, students completed their Career Action Plan (CAPs).  The CAPs will be used as a reference point for when they meet with me for their one-on-one career conversation this year.

The primary focus of these career conversations will be to assist each student with making informed career decisions about which direction they wish to take beyond Year 12.  The process of making decisions about the future can be overwhelming for some students but as I explained to the year 12s, career decisions are not permanent or fatal.  Careers can and do change as interests change through life experiences. Students have been encouraged to think about their interests in a much broader sense, problems they would like to solve or contributions they would like to make to their community.  Having answers to some of these questions is a great conversation starter and one that can lead to careers students have not even thought of.

Each year 12 student was advised that regardless of their desired career destination – university, TAFE, apprenticeship or employment – they needed to commence their career research now!   Students have been emailed a year 12 career planning letter which provides them with ideas of where to start this important research.

Career conversations with year 12 students will commence in March and go through until Term 3.  I have strongly encouraged students to seek out career information/assistance throughout the year so that they can be as prepared as possible prior to end of year exams….my door is always open to them😊

In addition to the above assistance, regular career related information will be posted up on the Year 12 TEAMS channel so they have been strongly encouraged to check their TEAMS channel daily.  Notices will include such things such as – weekly career newsletters, career profile information, career events/tertiary open days/courses, VTAC course application process and key dates, tertiary assessments such as UCAT (formerly UMAT), CASPSER test etc.

I wish all the year 12s a successful year and look forward to supporting them with their journey.
