Principal's Message

Year 6 Graduation

The Year 6 Graduation 2022 took place at Deakin University last night. This was a fabulous opportunity to celebrate seven years of primary school education for the 184 students and their families. For the students, the evening began with photos and a meal at Foo Moo Restaurant before joining with parents and families for the formal presentation of Graduation Certificates in auditorium.

Speeches from the School Captains: Sophie Langford and Vysnavi Sivasuthan, Vice-Captains: Ayden Jiang and Jeff Tun, School Council President, Praveena Hari Bharath, and the Principal, each captured the important aspects of the educational experience at Mount View. I would like to thank our student leaders for their wonderful speeches and for they way the have demonstrated and modelled great leadership throughout the year.

Thank you to all of the Year 6 students for their great class videos which were shown last night. These videos showed creativity and humour and were greatly appreciated by the audience.

Giving Tree Assembly

The Giving Tree Assembly will take place on Friday, 16 December at 2:40 pm. Thank you to all families who have donated to this community initiative which supports families in need during the festive season. The presents donated by the Mount View Community will be greatly appreciated by children who are in need of additional support at this time.

Class Groups 2023

All class groups for 2023 will be announced via Compass on Friday, 16 December at 3 pm. This year’s teachers have worked together to take into account students’ friendship requests and academic and social needs to ensure that we have the best combinations of students in each class group. Some staffing appointments are still to be finalised and the school leadership team will complete these appointments over the next few weeks in time for the new school year.

Retirements

On behalf of the Mount View community, I would like to acknowledge the work of two of our long-term team members as they announce their retirement from full time work.

Yvonne Allen has announced that she will be retiring early in 2023 after teaching at Mount View for more than twenty years. Yvonne has most recently been one of our English as a Second Language team members. In this role she has been instrumental in supporting students from across the school as they enter their first Australian school. Yvonne’s skill and dedication has ensured that all her students settle and prosper in their education. Yvonne also has extensive experience as classroom-based teacher who has been a guiding light to her colleagues, students and parents.

Tony Lee has been involved in many roles and forums over many years at Mount View. Initially as a parent with little ones at Appletree Kinder, then students at Mount View, Tony has always been actively involved in the life of the school. Over time he has been a School Council member and School Council President. Over the last five and half years Tony has been our Facilities Manager, and in this role, he has maintained the good order and safety of school’s learning environment.

We wish both of our retirees all the very best as the more to a new and exciting period in their lives.
