STUDENT ACTIVITIES

ASPIRING LEADERS DAY

On Wednesday 12th, Friday 14th and Wednesday 26th of October we held successful Aspiring Leaders days with grade 5 students from our feeder primary schools. Our student leaders ran different leadership activities including team building, interview skills and goal setting activities with grade 5’s. The aim was to build the grade 5’s leadership capacity and give them confidence to apply for leadership positions in grade 6.

A big thank you to our amazing student leaders from year 7-12 who led the days beautifully. We are extremely lucky to have such a great group of leaders, they have done our school very proud.

"NAILED IT"

Students from Year 7 to 10 applied to be part of the cooking competition. Twenty four students ( 12 pairs) were selected to participate. Students were presented with a selection of decorated cupcakes, then in pairs attempted to replicate them under strict time constraints. Student received two 'HELP' cards per pair. These provided two minutes of advice/help per card. Other than this, students used their own initiative and creativity to get the cakes decorated. Students had 100 minutes to bake, decorate and to reveal their groups creations to the judges and other contestants. The winning students both received a small prize and certificate. A big thank you to Mrs Vaughan and Mrs Holderness for facing the very difficult decision of choosing the winner and runner up of Nailed It 2022.

Emily Grafton-White and Charlotte Dyer of year 8 won ‘Nailed it 2022'. Runners up were Matilda Borthwick and Hayley Callen (also of Year 8).

Well done to all of our participants.

YEAR 9 FOCACCIA ART

Year 9 Food- Focaccia Art

In week 1 of term 4, our Year 9 Food students participated in a Focaccia Art practical. Students made their own focaccia and then used a variety of fresh vegetables and herbs to make their own edible art piece. The students all worked really hard on their pieces and we saw some amazing pieces of art displayed. Well done Year 9’s!

THE GREATEST SHAVE

The Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave is one of Australia's most well-loved fundraising campaigns.

It's an annual event where family, friends, businesses and individuals come together to raise money by getting sponsored to be brave and shave their heads. Our team are very proud of Shelby De Young of year 11 shaving her head  for a cure, the event raised $2500. Thank you to everyone who supported her.

HPV

On the 22nd November the MESC HPV team attended the Maryborough Energy Breakthrough event.  The team are to be congratulated on their  spirit that dominated a weekend of adversity and adventure. When we first arrived all students worked together to set up camp in record time. The second photo is their unusually happy faces after having packed up the entire campsite on day 2, loaded it onto a flat bed truck and moved it 800 metres in an emergency re-location. And the third photo is senior students, linked arm in arm, with spirits high after the race was stopped after a few hours and we had to evacuate the site and walk 27 students and 18 volunteers along with the other several hundred people to a nearby school in the sleeting rain and hail, where we remained bunkered in for a couple of hours, playing games and waiting to return to the race. It was a weekend of adversity, but our students were the calmest, most caring, supporting, cohesive and efficient. They listen to all instructions and followed leadership with unwavering trust and collaboration. Congratulations to all of our students.
