Wellbeing

Wellbeing Report for 2023:

There is always a lot happening in the Wellbeing area of the school and currently we have 6 staff to respond to the wellbeing needs of students. This includes a full-time Leading Teacher for Student Wellbeing, a full-time Mental Health Practitioner, one full-time counsellor, 2 part-time counsellors and a part-time multi-cultural worker. Next year I will be taking a teaching load for PE, Health and Pastoral Care and will not be overseeing student wellbeing in a full-time capacity.

The underlying philosophy of wellbeing is:

  1. Promoting connectedness of students with their peers and staff and to also give students every opportunity to feel that that they belong.
  2. To develop healthy and respectful relationships.
  3. To improve students’ knowledge and skills so they will make informed choices and promote safe behaviours.
  4. Identifying students at risk and to provide them with wellbeing support through counselling, wellbeing programs and agencies if necessary.
  5. Enabling students to feel safe and this includes responding to disclosures.

Many programs have been delivered to students throughout 2022 to re-settle them into school after 2 years of COVID –19.  This included: Respectful Relationships, Raise Mentoring program, Party Safe, Girls Group, Connect Group, Breakfast Club, The Resilience Project, Pasifika Group, Koori Group, Life Skills Go, Young Men’s Program, Smashed Performance, Cyber-Safety workshops, The Hope Tour production, Headspace programs, Rainbow Group, Wear it Purple and IDAHOBIT Celebration Days.

Thank you do the dedicated Staff at Epping Secondary College for supporting the students throughout 2022. I would like to inform the community that Carly Young will be leaving after caring for students and working with families for over 5 years. Carly will be missed by students, parents and staff and I wish her all the best in her role at Eltham Secondary College. Lastly a big thank you to the amazing wellbeing team at Epping Secondary College.
