Run Club

Martin Ling, one of our Year 11 Leaders has been working hard to get our PRSC Run Club back up and running to provide students a place to be active before school.

We meet on Tuesday mornings at 7:45am and run for around 20 minutes. Students can wear their active gear for the run and get changed in our Stadium change rooms to be ready for period 1 in their correct uniform. All fitness levels are catered for. All staff and students are welcome to attend. If you would like any further information, please speak to Martin Ling or Mr Leith in the Year 9 Centre.

Swimming Carnival 2023

We recently held our school swimming carnival on a beautiful sunny day at Pines Pool. A big thank you to all the staff for all the hard work they put in, and an even bigger thank you to all the students who turned out in team colours and got involved, making for a great carnival. An extra special mention to the VM students who did a fantastic job running activities around the pool all day. Well done team!

We also had Nethan Allwright on the decks spinning up some absolute bangers all day long. Nethan kept the vibe up all day, showing off his skills by playing his guitar in between his DJ sets. He proved he has the talent to play in front of big crowds and has a bright future ahead of him in the world of music.

The results from the carnival saw Derrimut as the overall winners on the day, with Aston a very close 2nd. Monash and Freeman finished 3rd and 4th respectively. The 2023 Ultimate Eels were Yasmin Papadopoulos and Luke Miccoli, who each took home the title as the fastest individual swimmers in the school!

Carrum Coast Guard Fun Run 2023

On Sunday the 19th of February the Carrum Coast Guard held their annual fun run around Patterson River. The sun was out, and the weather was perfect as around 40 students and staff from Patterson River Secondary College participated in the event.

Well done to the Patterson River Secondary College team for taking out the Championship as the overall schools winner.

Congratulations to year 10 student Ollie Gleeson who was the overall winner for the 6-kilometre event.

A special shout out to staff members Ryan Burjan and D’Arcy Garton on completing the 12-kilometre event. Thanks also to Maree foster who assisted Pete McCall in organising the students before the event.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved.

Year 7 Baseball

Year 7 Sport – Baseball

On Monday April 3rd the baseball team headed to Frankston Baseball Club to compete in the group round robin.

This was first game of competition baseball for all by 2 of the boys so a great learning experience.

Game 1 V EMC 2

A strong start with Raff Groenendyk pitching and Casey Vincent catching. The infield defensive team supported the pitcher with strike outs, a catch and a good combination play from Hunter Ardley and Ben Jones who rotated through the 1st base position for the day.

A nice throw from Seb Logan to 3rd base and the glove of Michael Brown saw a runner tagged out and side away.

The bats ran hot for the PRSC team with 1 out before we scored the maximum 5 runs per innings.

The second pitching effort was from Seb Logan and it was like watching a scene from the movie Major League when the Wild Thing came out to pitch! Very strong and throws very hard but could be a bit wild! Regardless the EMC batting line up didn’t want to hang around with big Seb pitching and they struck out quickly for no runs.

The PRSC second innings went pretty well the same as the first with the maximum 5 runs.

PRSC 10 EMC 0

Game 2 V EMC 1

With only 9 players on the day the lineup didn’t change much. Sol Azemi took to the mound and pitched the first innings. Seb Logan took over catching duties.

With 2 outs and 2 runs an error in the field gave EMC hope and they went on to score the maximum 5 runs.

The PRSC bats all got hits, Raff laced one straight back to the pitcher for a good catch. Hunter thrown out at first, Zade Williams got on base with a walk, Blake Hannah got on base with a walk but unfortunately we were unable to capitalize on the base runners and scored only 2 runs.

The second innings we kept the EMC 1 team to 1 run so the last PRSC innings the math was simple. Score 5 runs to win or 4 to draw the game and a chance to progress to the next final game still a chance of the pennant.

Some great hitting and base running from Casey, Ben Jones, Zade Williams and Raff got us based loaded. The winning run was sitting on second base when we got 2 outs and based were loaded. Hunter was given the ‘green light” to hit away and go for the win but a great catch by the EMC infield and we fell just short.

A sort of highlight was when Seb threw the ball back to Sol who was pitching but missed him and hit the umpire in the leg! It hurt but he was impressed with how hard he threw!

PRSC 6 – EMC2 7

Game 3

PRSC v Frankston HS

With only the bare 9 players the day was taking its toll on the whole line up. Raff pitched, Casey caught, Blake came into 2nd base and we played Sol, Zade and Archer in close to restrict the runs. FHS scored 5 in the first, we squeezed out 2 runs in reply.

There was a delay with a medical time out and we finished the game with FHS running out 10-2 winners.

Highlight was a great hit from Seb to center field and Raff’s work on the mound.

Conclusion

The team showcased all of the values of PRSC of Excellence, Respect, Persistence and Community and thank them for their efforts on the day. Well done boys.

Senior Girls Volleyball

Interschool Sport kicked off in 2023 on Monday February 13th. The Senior Girls Volleyball teams headed to McClelland College for their event. The A team had a full day of play with 5 matches, and the B team with 3 matches. The A team had a strong start with a straight sets win over EMC. Spirits were high and energy was up heading into their next game, unfortunately they came up against a very strong and disciplined McClelland side and went down in straight sets. The next match was a tight one, going to a third set, but in the end, Mt. Erin prevailed. This was followed by 2 straight set losses to Carrum Downs and Frankston, but both were close games and the girls stayed in touch in all sets, only going down by a few points. The A team’s player of the day goes to Katelyn Green, with strong serving and repeated service returns, well done Katelyn. The B team played their 3 matches against Frankston, EMC and McClelland. Unfortunately, the girls were unable to get a win on the day.  All the girls, in both teams, showed great sportsmanship and positive team work.

Intermediate Baseball Team Report

On Monday 13 Feb the Patterson River SC Year 9 and 10 team played in the group round robin.

The competition was brought forward by 4 weeks compared to the previous years so only 3 training sessions were available as a team.

The team was a good mix of both Yr 9 and 10 students with some solid baseball experience and good athletic ability.

Each game was 70 minutes timed game.

Game 1 PRSC v EMC 12-2 Win to PRSC

We batted first and Jack Pierce the team off. Joel Bouker followed and he had a great day with the bat and his ground ball double set the team up to score a run.

Oli Robinson took the mound and Fletcher Leonard Scott as catcher. Oli pitched really well for 2 innings. Billy Thomson closed out the innings conceding 2 walks and 1 hit. Great effort.

EMC took advantage of a small error in the infield and scored a run to make it 1-1. They scored on a walk in the 3rd innings.

A reminder to the team of the importance of scoring the maximum runs per innings as the round robin format counted the total runs and this could be crucial.

The next innings was scored our 5 runs and again in the 3rd innings to close the game out.

Final score 12-2 PRSC

Game 2 PRSC V FHS

This is always the toughest game of this Northern Peninsula Sports Group. Both schools have current competitive baseball. FHS have some representative players and this was going to be a tough game.

FHS won the toss and sent us in to bat.

Joel Bouker led off and got on base with a walk. As soon as a runner is on base with no outs the pressure starts to mount on the pitcher. Joel stole second base and waited patiently for a hit or catchers error.

Kaleb Morrison, Fletcher Leonard Scott, Oliver Robinson and Jack Pierce all played a part during the innings to push Joel into 3rd base and scoring position. Ground ball RBI from Billy Thomson and Joel crossed the plate to get us on the scoreboard.

Joel pitched the first innings and with great infield support from Xavier Martine at 1st, Jack Pierce at 2nd, Billy Thomson Short Stop and Tom Murphy at 3rd Base, FHS struggled to get the bat on ball and get onto base. A little bit of gamesmanship from a FHS batter didn’t put Joel off as he struck out their lead off batter and best player.

A walk got the FHS runner into scoring position and at the end of the first innings it was 1-1.

The second innings saw the PRSC bats get hot with hits to Phoenix Simpfendorfer, Billy T, Tom Murphy and Xavier M “working” a walk. That took us back to the top of the batting line up where Joel Bouker laced one out to center field and made the first of his 2 “in-the-park” home runs for the day to score 4 runs for PRSC.

In sport momentum is everything and FHS batters couldn’t respond and Joel and the infield, supported by the outfield of Oliver, Kaleb and Phoenix saw three batters come up and sit back down for no hits and no runs.

In the 3rd innings PRSC posted 2 more runs and effectively game over with FHS needing 5 runs to tie the game. With 2 outs Billy T took a great catch at short stop that would make a highlight reel in any televised game to close out the innings and the game.

Special thanks to Ned Dowling, Tom Patterson and Steven Segal who supported that win from the dugout.

Game 3 PRSC V Carrum Downs

The line up was mixed up  for this game with Jack P catching and Oliver R pitching.

Carrum Downs SC had a skilled pitcher and pitched a good innings. It was great to see Ned, Tom P and Steven all get solid hits to get around the bases. Joel B hit another in the park home run. We closed the first innings 5-1.

We added another 4 in the second innings and the umpire “called” the game on the mercy rule where a team can’t possibly win.

Summary

Everyone did a great job, showed good levels of fair play and reflected the college values of Excellence, Persistence and Respect.

We have some more work to do at training till the next round of the Regional Finals on May 2nd in early Term 2.

Well done and thanks for your efforts across the board.
