It has been a busy start to the year in the Language Centre. 34 students returned after the holidays and we have welcomed many new students. At present, we have 61 students in our Language Centre coming from fifteen different countries!

Students have settled in well to classes. We are running four classes at the moment. Students are grouped based on their English levels. Most students will study with us for two terms. It is a short time and requires to students to study very hard so they can improve their English and be prepared for their mainstream schooling.

Students have gone to two excursions over the last few weeks. WELC students walked to Zone Bowling and enjoyed a bowling game with their peers, followed by lunch at M City. It was great to see all students having a fun day together!

On Monday, the Language Centre students attended the Westall Swimming Carnival. Many students challenged themselves and had a ride down the huge water slide there. Other students participated in the swimming events including Ryoma, Tomohiro and Sulo. We congratulate all these students for participating and especially Tomohiro for finishing first place in his race!

We will hold Parent Teacher interviews next week and we encourage all parents to attend. This is a great opportunity for all families to come to school and discuss with teachers about their child’s progress and how they can improve. We know that feedback is an important part of the learning process and hope that all families take advantage of this opportunity.

Students all have a Reading Eggs login. This is a reading program our school provides in order for students to improve their reading skills. We encourage all students to spend 15 – 30 minutes every night doing this program. Students who complete all the levels will get a prize.

We are also running a Reading program on Tuesday and Thursday mornings (8:30 am – 9:00 am). This is aimed at our Group 4 students and we encourage all to attend. Students will have the chance to practice their reading and read aloud to an adult.
