Assistant Principal (Years 7-9) Report 

Dear Westall Secondary College community,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new students at the College, especially our new Year 7 students who are starting their journey into secondary school life. It is great to see the students settling back into their school routine and taking opportunities inside and outside the classroom to develop their skills, knowledge and capabilities. 

Recently it has been recognised  by the Department of Education the importance of wellbeing, placing learning and wellbeing at the centre of school improvement. This is a notion we practice at Westall and  are constantly reflecting on ways we can improve in this space. We aim to help build our young people into happy, healthy and resilient learners who can thrive beyond secondary school. We have 2 important events coming up for our school community, including:

NAPLAN

NAPLAN is the national literacy and numeracy  assessment that administered to the Year 7 and 9 students at Westall Secondary College, as part of the state-wide initiative. NAPLAN testing will begin on Wednesday 15th March and conclude on  Monday 27th March. Each student will take part in 4 tests over the week and a half window. 

NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/ carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time.

NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.

WESTALL EXPO

This year we will be holding a Westall Expo, an opportunity for our Westall Community, both current and future parents, guardians and students to immerse themselves in the Westall Way.   It will be held on Thursday the 30th March from 5.00 – 7.30pm. 

As part of the event we will be holding:

• Tours: explore our college as a future Year 7 student (Principal address at 6.00pm)
• Information session for Year 11 and 12 parents on the VCE and Vocational Major
• Information session on Compass (suitable for parents and guardians of student in Year 7-12)
• Junior School celebration
