Wayapa Wurrk Incursion

Prep students had the opportunity to have an incursion with Wayapa Wurrk. Taryn Foster (mum to Amelia in PFL) taught them about our connection to and taking care of community and country and acceptance of difference.

Hello from our Sustainability Leaders

On Tuesday 29th November our Sustainability Leaders for 2023 attended their first iSea iCare excursion in Sorrento. The newly appointed marine ambassadors boarded the Moonraker and went on the lookout for dolphins and swam with the seals. It was a great introduction to their sustainable adventures and Connor, Abi, Zali and Tony are looking forward to more experiences next year.

Last Tuesday I went to Sorrento with Connor, Abi and Zali. We went on a boat to visit the seals and we got fins, a wetsuit and snorkels. Once we put them on we went into the water and the water was freezing but you would get used to it. The seals were very playful and harmless but stinky and they made weird noises. We were in the water for about twenty minutes and once we got out we were allowed a hot chocolate which was really hot so I wasn't that cold. The area we went swimming was the South Channel Pile Light. There were about twelve seals. We also snorkelled at the dock. We saw a stingray and jellyfish and lots of fish including eight puffer fish and before we snorkelled we saw a Banjo Shark and my favourite part was swimming with the seals. We left school at nine in the morning and got on the boat at twelve in the afternoon and got back at ten to five at night time. Tony

On 29th of November the iSea iCare ambassadors went to Sorrento to swim with the seals at South Channel Pile Light. Before we went on the boat we saw 10 Pufferfish and 1 Banjo Shark. When we got to the seals the immense smell hit us like a freight train! EWW! There were about 12 to 18 seals there but it was hard to tell since they were diving in the water and there were some under the structure. It was very fun standing at the top of the top deck and after our first swim they gave us hot chocolate! YUM! When it was the second time to swim, Zali and I stayed on the boat and got changed because when everyone got on there was a massive line to the changing room because there were only 2 bathrooms. When we were driving there we drove through the rain and thought it was going to be a gloomy day to swim with seals but it ended up clearing up and it stopped raining. Abi

On Tuesday the 29th of November the Sustainability Leaders visited Sorrento. We left at 9:00 am to go on a boat and swim with the seals and sea creatures. We were having lunch at the beach and saw a banjo shark and puffer fish. When we got onto the boat the professionals explained how to use the flippers and snorkels. We sailed to the South Tunnel Pile Light, and saw 12 to 13 seals. When we got on the boat we got some hot chocolate and ate our snack. Then we went to a bay and snorkelled in the water and saw some amazing creatures like small jellyfish. One jellyfish stung Connor on his lip. Then we got back on the boat and got dressed. When we left to go back to school it was 3:30 pm and when we were walking back to the cars we passed a school of puffer fish. It was cool because we only saw around 3/4 puffer fish before at the beach. By the time we got back to the school it was 4:50 pm and that was the end of our day.  Zali

On Tuesday 29th of November the Sustainability Leaders, Tony, Zali, Abi and I went to Sorrento to snorkel with seals. At 9:00 the group of us left OLA to drive to Sorrento. When we got to Sorrento we ate our lunch and since we were early we got to have a look around and in the water we saw a banjo shark .When we got onto the boat it was around 12:30 but we were still really excited. For our first snorkelling session we got to swim with the seals. It was really cold at the start but soon we got used to it. It was really cool to look down and see seals swimming underneath you. For the second swim I saw jellyfish, fish and a stingray. Overall it was a great day. Connor
