Assessment and Reporting

End of Year Reports

Semester 2 Reports will be sent home on Monday 12th December.

The purpose of the report is to formally report student achievement and progress to parents/carers, and to report directly against the Victorian Curriculum F-10 Achievement Standards.

Achievement in the Victorian Curriculum domains is marked using an A-E scale as required by the Commonwealth Government.

A student who has achieved the ‘C’ rating indicates that he or she has met the state wide standards.

Our ‘Target Skills’ are a checklist of skills that are of focus in your child’s learning throughout the semester.  These skills are taken directly from the Achievement Standards and assist classroom teachers in the marking of your child’s achievement against the Victorian Curriculum.

When assessing Target Skills, the following scale of achievement is used:

Not Yet Evident

Beginning

Developing

Achieved

Embedded in Learning

No evidence of the skill

Beginning to show the skill with/without support

Displays elements of the skill independently

Displays the skill consistently and independently

Applies the skill to other areas of learning

The report also includes written overviews of what has been taught in the various Curriculum Areas, including Specialist Areas, as well as a general comment on your child’s social and emotional skills.

If you would like to discuss your child’s progress, please feel free to make a mutually convenient time to speak to your child’s classroom teacher.

Work Samples Portfolio Survey Results

Earlier this term, specific feedback was sought regarding our practices pertaining to Work Samples Portfolios.

All stakeholders in our COHR community were invited to participate in a short survey.

We received a total of 93 responses from students in Years 3-6, 10 responses from teaching staff and 62 responses from parents/carers i.e. over 50% of families at COHR.

Thank you to those who were able to complete the survey.  We greatly appreciate your feedback.

From the responses received, there was a general consensus amongst stakeholders that the current practices for portfolios are valued and preferred.

A snapshot of some of the survey results can be found in the images below:

In 2023, the current practice for Work Samples Portfolios will continue.  Portfolios will be sent home at the end of Term 1 and Term 3 (every term for Prep) in a hard copy presentation folder.

Each term, four work samples will be included in the portfolio, along with assessment criteria marked by the teacher.  The work samples will include the following areas:

  • Writing
  • Maths
  • Religion
  • Other Area* (This piece may vary for each semester for each of the year levels.  This piece may include Science, Art, Reading Comprehension, Social & Emotional Learning etc.)

A WOW piece chosen by the students will also be included.

Should you have any questions or other feedback you would like to give, please do not hesitate to speak to Jill Palermo (Learning and Teaching Leader) and/or email jpalermo@cohroakeast.catholic.edu.au
