2020 Swimming Carnival

Most are still are still in shock and in disbelief but the rumours are true! The green house named Bogong won this year's swimming sports! Bogong found the winning formula with plenty of new Year 7 students winning a lot of races - along with being the loudest house cheering all day. It's also widely believed that the best thing the house did was sack the old house leader (Fadgo) for a much younger and fitter leader in Mr Garry.

The College would really like to thank everyone for helping set up and pack up on the day, with much appreciated efforts from our fantastic maintenance staff Kev and Mitch. A big thank you is also in order for our VCAL team for the delicious food and cake stall - a great effort. As always, Disco CT Taylor provided some pumping tunes - thanks to CT and FreeZa. The College would also like to thank all the students who attended the day. The participation rate in all events was fantastic and behaviour was very good from all students.

A special mention to Tommy Hardwick for his efforts in organising the day.

Progress Reports

Please note that Progress Reports were available in the 5th week of Term 1 via Compass.

Due to unexpected teacher absences there are a small number of progress Reports that were incomplete. Some students in classes taught by Mr Cameron and Mr Colliver will not have a Progress Report for that class.

Clontarf Training Sessions

Clontarf training sessions are run each Friday morning at 7.30am in the BARC. The training sessions are for Clontarf academy members, Bairnsdale Secondary College staff members and members of the community. The purposes of training are simple! Finish off the school week with a high, get some exercise and strengthen relationships between staff and students.

Clontarf believes that sport is a positive tool which can help build relationships between people and to find common ground. Following each training session, participants share a sit down breakfast of bacon and eggs and each person speaks about their week and the upcoming activities on the weekend.

Clontarf training sessions have gone from strength to strength over the last year with participation levels increasing from an average of 10 to 35 people every session within the past few months. We encourage all College staff and Clontarf participants to be part of this program.

FreeZa

FReeZA is a community youth organisation supported by the East Gippsland Shire and the Victorian Government. Students are encouraged to join this year's FreeZa group, which meets at a lunch time each week and organises music and cultural events at school and the wider community. If students are interested in the music industry, sing, play an instrument or want to further their leadership skills, FreeZA is a great opportunity!

Any student interested in joining, or would like to come along and chat with other students and Mr Taylor about the group, can leave their name at a Learning Hub.

Free After School Gym Sessions

Students in Year 8 and above  have the opportunity to sign up for the After School Gym Program which is starting on Friday 6th March. The program will run every week on Wednesdays and Fridays from 3.30 to 4.30pm. The College has a full set of new equipment in the school gym including a power rack, free weights, brand new squat bar and weight plates.

Activities will include weight lifting, core workouts, running and skipping and there will also be music and a different workout each session. There will be staff members at the gym working out and helping students who participate in the program. We hope to see lots of students sign up to get extra fitness into their week!

If students would like to sign up to attend the training sessions they can pick up a permission slip from the a Learning Hub and return it to Mr O’Rourke.

Inter-School Shooting Competition

Wishing the best of luck to our Inter-school Shooting Team who are competing on Tuesday 11th March against other schools at the Bairnsdale Field and Game Club. The College would like to acknowledge the Bairnsdale Field and Game Club and the Bairnsdale Clay Target Club for assistance last week with coaching and practise.

Student Dress Code - Update and Reminder of College Policy

Shoes

The College would like to stress the importance of wearing appropriate footwear to school.  All footwear must conform to OH&S requirements and students may be excluded from class activities if appropriate footwear is not worn. As such, the type and style of footwear students wear to school is extremely important.

Our Student Dress Code Policy states that 'School shoes must be: plain black (no other colours permitted), impermeable to liquid (but not necessarily leather) and fully enclosed (no ‘T’ bar, slip on or sandals style). Shoes must be worn with socks / stockings (hygiene issues can arise when students do not wear socks)'.

College policies are available on our website.
