RE News - Mark MacGregor

Last Wednesday was Ash Wednesday, the start of the 40 day Lenten journey. Unfortunately we as a school and community were not able to attend Mass, however all students will continue to develop their knowledge and understanding of Lent in class. Each student has been given a Project Compassion box and I encourage you to discuss the importance of thinking of others that are less fortunate than ourselves. In the classroom the students will be shown videos of how Caritas Australia uses the funds raised through the Project Compassion Appeal to assist others in need. If you as a family are able to donate some money to this cause we would be very thankful. All monies raised can be returned to school in the Project Compassion box at the end of the term.

Here is the link to the Caritas website if you would like to view it.

In the coming weeks, one of the ways the children will continue to develop their understanding of Lent is to read and discuss scripture passages. These passages display how Jesus gave to and prayed with others. The students will be asked to think and explore ways of how they can be more like Jesus in their own lives.

During the last couple of weeks, the students have been discussing prayer. The children have been given the opportunity to write their own prayers, participate in class prayer and be part of the whole school prayer. Prayer is a very important part of our school community and it has been wonderful to be part of the two Whole School Prayers so far this year. The Whole School Prayer is celebrated each Friday morning with a different grade having the opportunity to prepare it.

Year Four students will bring home a note today about their First Holy Communion. Can parents and carers please read this note and return it to their classroom teacher by the end of the week.

Have a wonderful week.

Mark MacGregor.
