Senior Girls Cricket Round Robin

Duncan McKinnon Reserve

A fantastic day of great skills, enthusiasm and positive energy as our Senior Girls relished the opportunity to play sport again.

Our first game vs Parkdale was going well until a quick trip back to school for 7 of our 9 to receive their leaders’ badges.

On their return we took on Bentleigh who have built up a really strong team over the last two years and they overtook our score easily despite excellent bowling and fielding.

In our final game against McKinnon, they made 55 off 10 but Maddie White and Emma Dowsing strode out to knock the runs off in 6 overs. Emma played a great supporting role to Maddie’s power hitting, placement and running quick singles. Maddie’s score of 50 not out was crucial.

Maddie’s captaincy embodied the spirit of Cricket and everyone was able to make a worthy contribution to the day’s proceedings.

Tayla Jones was a revelation, keeping for the first time, she performed brilliantly. Especially to Maddie’s bowling, which was quick! She’s a class act and has great natural skills that she can transfer between sports.

Kiyara (our school captain) bowled and batted really well and was a great influence on the team.

Emma had a really good day bowling with pace and skill and batting so well.

Mia flighted the ball beautifully and made life difficult for all the batters.

Taylor bowled some great balls and had a good last wicket partnership against Parkdale with Madi M when the rest of the team were on the bus back to school!

Zoe bowled really well and took the only wicket against McKinnon, surprising herself more than us.

Irene had a nice batting cameo and fielded really well.

Cassidy had an injured shoulder so she took on scoring duties, which was a great relief to me.

Thanks especially to Irene, Taylor and Madi for helping carry the Team Kit bags.

The atmosphere was quite joyous despite the 31 degree heat, but no-one complained and the camaraderie with the opposition players was wonderful.

I was privileged to take part in the day in the presence of some of BSC’s impressive student leaders.
