School Crossings

Recently there have been some concerns raised about student safety.

It is important we come to school and leave school safely. Sturt and Gillies Streets are very busy before and after school. Both streets have supervised crossings and the intersection of Sturt and Gillies Streets has signalled pedestrian lights.

Please use these crossings correctly to ensure your safety. Please note:

  • A driver approaching a children's crossing must drive at a speed at which the driver can, if necessary, stop safely before the crossing.
  • If a driver stops at a children's crossing for a hand-held stop sign, the driver must not proceed until there is no pedestrian on or entering the crossing and the holder of the sign -

                          (a)       No longer displays the sign towards the driver; or

                          (b)       Otherwise indicates that the driver may proceed.

  • A driver must not stop on a children's crossing, or on the road within 20 metres before the crossing and 10 metres after the crossing unless the driver stops at a place on a length of road, or in an area, to which a parking control sign applies and the driver is permitted to stop at that place under these rules.
  • To support families dropping off students there is a designated drop off area in the service lane at the front on the Gym / JJ Sheehan wing.
  • Pedestrians must not cross a road, or part of a road, within 20 metres of a crossing on the road.
  • A bicycle rider must not ride across a road, or part of a road, at a crossing.
