Buildings and Grounds update
What has changed in the school for 2021?
Students returned to a very different looking school for their learning in 2021. Not only is the new Senior Centre all ready for classes, but much other work has been completed across the school in order to provide the best possible learning environment for every student.
Reservoir High has just completed the first Stage of our Re-building program- the new Senior Centre. We are about to begin Stage 2- the New Food Technology and Art spaces and we continue to work on improving the outdoor spaces in the school.
The old C Building and toilet block has been demolished. This has left a rather large open space in the middle of the school. The intent is to use this space to provide for more outdoor, undercover spaces for our students and staff. We will be meeting with students, staff and parent groups over the coming months to plan this new outdoor space.
It has been exciting, and well overdue, to move into a new classroom/teaching space. The new Senior School building, the C Block, is now open to students and staff and is an outstanding environment for learning.
With air conditioning throughout the building, new wifi to support the BYOD program, new ergonomically designed furniture, Common Room and break out quiet study spaces, this new building is architectually designed to support our Senior students to achieve at their best. Built with soundproof glass and operable walls, the space will also double as the VCE Exam centre.
To support the new building, outdoor spaces are designed to provide spaces for our Senior students to relax and unwind. Students in our VCAL program are currently designing outdoor gardens and seating and will then create an safe, secure and comfortable environment that all of our students can enjoy.
Unfortunately the covered walkways and locker bays for the new building have yet to be completed. They are progressing well and aim to be ready for use by March.
With the construction of a new Senior building, the F block has now been converted into a Junior School building. The F Block now hosts the Junior School Office, the Junior School Leader- Mr Forbes, Junior School Assistant Principal- Ms Manser , all the lockers for Year 7 students and 8 classrooms with air conditioning and computer access.
As Reservoir High School does not run a BYOD program for Years 7-9, our Junior School classrooms are provisioned with either 1:1 desktops in each room, or 1:1 laptops. The computers are positioned around the room, allowing complete supervision at all times by the staff in the room and supports our explicit teaching model. Parents continually report to the school their concerns over 'screen time' for their children, and our classrooms are designed for technology to support and extend learning, not replace the relationships and explicit teaching required to build future success.
We have also been updating and modernising many other teaching spaces in the school.
Our Middle School has had three classrooms in the D block modernised and are now being used by classes. These rooms have upgraded wi-fi, new large screens for explicit teaching, air conditioning and new furniture.
With STEAM now part of the Junior School curriculum, we also opened our second STEAM maker space room. This room supports the STEAM program in the Junior School, and Systems Engineering from Year 9 to 12 and our expanding Science program. We would like to thank Federal Member for Cooper, Ged Kearney for the grant to co-fund this new space.
Our Visual Art spaces are also undergoing a modernisation. While we plan what these spaces will look like as per of the next Stage of the building program, we have refurbished two spaces in the B block.
