Principal's Report

I acknowledge the First People of the Wathaurong, who are the traditional custodians of the land and waters on which I work and live, and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.

Staff Conference

Our staff have engaged in some invaluable learning experiences across the two Curriculum Days that took place before and after the long weekend.

We were extremely privileged to have David Buttifant lead us in personal wellbeing development throughout the Staff Conference on Thursday evening and Friday.

David has a proven track record at the highest level of elite sport spanning over 25 years. He has worked with athletes at Olympic level and in the Australian Football League (AFL). His leadership and resilience facilitation experience is equally impressive. He’s delivered hundreds of presentations and programs to audiences ranging from large corporations to school and sporting communities. He shares his evidence-based techniques and strategies to make healthy habits stick. His approach to building resilience and leadership involves planning, creating habits, self-reflection and accountability. David firmly believes that these qualities are the pathway to building a better version of oneself. They have supported him over a lifetime. Through his own experiences he has guided others to adapt, to change and to achieve success in sport, business and life. David has a Doctorate in Exercise Physiology from Victoria University and an MBA.

We then focused on Student Wellbeing, led by Michael Searl (Wellbeing Coordinator) and Jesse Winter (School Chaplain). Staff engaged in further developing our Wellbeing Curriculum and the results of our Wellbeing Day were significant actions for improvement moving forward.

Yesterday, staff were led by Sarah Bigmore (Numeracy Specialist) and Matt Smith (Assessment & Reporting Leader) to develop our understanding in the areas of Data Literacy and evidence-based best practice. Teaching staff and Education Support Staff were engaged throughout the day working in teams and, once again, actions to further improve our Numeracy Curriculum, Teaching, Learning & Assessment were developed. Two highly successful days resulting in our staff feeling connected and empowered to ensure quality teaching and learning at Miners Rest K-6.

Student-led Conferences

Students and teachers have been focused on beginning the year with targeted teaching and learning, particularly in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy. Student-led Conferences will take place on Tuesday March 23 and Wednesday March 24, and times to meet with your child's teacher will be available from 3:40 pm until 7:00 pm. Students will have an active role in this conference and teachers have used individualised assessments to determine key achievements and goals in the areas of Literacy and Numeracy. We are looking forward to having families in our learning spaces to celebrate Term One learning. Booking information will come out later this week.
