From the Director of Students

Mr Baldino Vetrano

Dear College community,

As we head into the ‘business end’ of the term, students are busy completing assessments. The energy around the College has been brilliant as both students and staff are all working hard. From a pastoral perspective, our Year Leaders have been presenting wellbeing programs that will help our students thrive in the weeks to come, while Year 8 students get ready for camp in Week 2 of Term 2.

Many events have occurred recently that have allowed our students to ‘step up’, take RESPONSIBILITY and really acknowledge what it means to be a fine young man at St Greg’s. This week we celebrated Harmony Day and the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence. These two very important events had a significant impact on our students as we continue to educate our students about diversity and respecting others.

A massive thank you to all the students and staff who took part and huge congratulations to Mrs Clarke who, like always, brings out her creative flair in setting up and delivering quality presentations that will never be forgotten.

Br Luke’s Funeral

Two weeks ago, the College came together again to farewell Br Luke Smyth. All students need to be commended on how they conducted themselves during Brother Luke’s funeral. The respectful tribute to a man who represented the Marist charism is a testament to the values the College stands for. It was a very powerful symbol of respect and solidarity as the students lined the road while the hearse drove past.

Year 12 Construction

It was great to watch our Year 12 Construction students pour a slab of concrete last week. Mr Hall and Mr O’Flynn supervised the boys as they quickly used the skills they had acquired to get the job done. For many of the boys, it was their first time they were working with concrete in such a large quantity. A special thank you to Dave from maintenance who was overseeing the event and giving our students tips and advice as they went along! Great work gentlemen.

Sports Assembly

In Week 7, the College welcomed two NRL stars from West Tigers; Chris Lawrance (St Greg's Old Boy) and Pat Richards. The two footy icons helped present the sports jerseys to our First Grade Rugby Leauge and Football teams for 2021.

Mr Michael Bullock also took the opportunity to candidly interview the two footy legends. The students really enjoyed the discussion and took note of the many recommendations given by the players.

Overall, it was a very entertaining assembly!!

God Bless,

Mr Baldino Vetrano
