Learning and Teaching

Art

This term in Art we have been focusing on the Elements of Art.  The Seniors have focused on Shape, Form and Line with the Grade 3/4’s c exploring shape and form by creating gorgeous little birds sitting on twig in two different mediums – clay and watercolour.  It was amazing to see all the different birds created.  Currently the Seniors are working on creating a self portrait, in the style of a chosen artist, which will displayed in our own portrait gallery when completed.  To start with we did some line drawings using mirrors, with lots of giggles and surprises, it was lots of fun seeing what we could draw without looking at the paper.

The Juniors having been exploring line and texture. Learning Space 3 students created fabulous ocean scenes using different lines for the waves then painted over these with cool colours.  To explore texture, we went outside and used the drawing technique of rubbing to discover the different textures found in the playground.  The students then used there rubbings to create torn collages of dinosaurs, discovering ways to tear shapes and combine these into their dinosaurs.

To protect your child’s school uniform could you please check if your child has an art smock.  This can be an old shirt that will fit over their uniform.

The students loved using their ICT skills and creativity to produce their own interesting animations. Parents can download this program from https://www.stykz.net/ if their child wishes to continue practicing at home.

FRIDAY SENIOR SPORTS

Today our Grade 5/6 played their first Interschool game against Rivergum Primary School. We will have further details and photos in next week’s newsletter. But we would like to thank all our Senior staff for their extra work in preparing their teams and to those who remained back at school to ensure learning continues for the Grade 3/4. Without the support of staff we would not be able to run these programs for our students.

We are very grateful to St John’s Regional College, who have provided us with the opportunity to have lunchtime soccer clinics, by nominating our school. Olympiacos Melbourne will be attending our school at 2nd lunch break on Mondays starting from Monday 22nd March through until November. They will take 26 students for a period of 2-4 weeks and will then rotate the grade level and take another 26 students. They will be focusing on soccer skills and working collaboratively with others. There will be no cost involved with this program.

If you would like your child to be involved, please complete the form that was sent home Wednesday and return it to the school office via the basket by Monday March 15th at the latest.  Please ensure you write the date you filled in and returned the form at the top, as well as your child’s grade and home group.
