VCAL Personal Development Skills Strand

The VCAL Personal Development Skills strand includes valuing personal achievement and effectively contributing to the community. PDS also involves demonstrating leadership and teamwork skills, accepting responsibility for goal achievement, and reflecting on knowledge and skills for decision making and problem-solving.

A PDS project the VCAL students have initiated is the Educational Dog Support program, where two dogs are available to help students with reading, assist children with emotional support, help improve concentration and communication as well as reducing the incidence of anti-social behaviour.

The class continues to co-ordinate and manage it with the two King Charles Cavaliers, Sadie and Otto. VCAL students have been involved in training the dogs and are also able to assist in the classroom. Supporting the College community in this way has been a highlight for students.
