Year 8 Probability Fair

Our School Hall is normally a quiet place, especially this time of year.  You’d expect to see row upon row of students completing final exams, but for a few days between VCE exams and Year 9/10 exams, it becomes a games parlour.

Our Year 8s set up stalls all around the outside of the Hall for the Probability Fair

At each stall is a game of chance, designed and built by the students, offering the chance to win big.

All term, the students have been busy designing these games of chance and they finally got to test them on a live audience.

Parents, teachers and other students tried their luck and skill.

As you might imagine, a fair bit of work goes into these and not just during construction, there’s Maths involved.

You see, in games of chance, the house should always win eventually.

Stall holders had to make the odds in their favour and also understand enough about human behaviour,  to make people want to play.

Students played using coloured tokens, which they got for free when entering the Hall.

Students who managed to win enough tokens won prizes!

There were prizes for stallholders too. To win, they had to attract as many customers and win as many tokens as possible.

The Hall was open for three days with new games every day.

Thanks to the Year 8 students and teachers for all their creativity and hard work.

Thanks also to Ms Rundell for putting the whole event together.
