Year 7 News

It is forever a busy time in Junior School at Lilydale High School, even this late in the year. The school year is starting to wind down but there is still plenty to complete.

We want to remind students to get their final CAT’s completed for the year and make sure they are checking in with their teachers on what they need to do in order to receive an S on their final report for 2017.

Remember effort and initiative are things that are highly valued at Lilydale and we want to see the students here demonstrating this whenever and wherever they can!

Year 7 Coordination team

2018 Year 8 Captains

The Year 7 Coordination team is taking nominations for Year 8 Captains for next year.

If you are interested in applying for the position, all you need to do is answer the following questions in a short write up;

  • Your name and form
  • Any leadership positions you have held in the past (both in 2017 and in primary school)
  • Why you think you would be suitable for the position,
  • What you can bring to the table as a Year 8 leader next year.

Once you have completed these questions, all you need to do is drop it off to one of the Coordinators in the Junior School Office.

We look forward to receiving your applications.

Reptile House

One of the highlights over the course of the year has been seeing the growth in some of the Year 7 Reptile House students.

For many students this area has become a sanctuary of personal development and something they have thoroughly enjoyed since entering the school.

In the photo below, are just a few of the Year 7 students who have enjoyed the experience the Reptile House has to offer for students at Lilydale High School.

Hearing how much joy the Reptile House brings the students is always surprising, no matter how often you hear about it.

When asked what they love the most about it, here are a few of the responses that were given.

“I love the fact that you get to meet new people, both in Year 7 and the older kids at the school”

“I just love working with animals”

“It gives my reptile a super nice place to live, and I can take care of it everyday while I am at school”

“Well, at first I had a fear of snakes and the Reptile Room scared me. But now I love it in here. Learning things about the animals, learning how to take care of them, learning what they eat and what they need to survive is fascinating. I have loved it so much that I now have my own snake!”

2018 Year 9 Elective Subjects

Year 8 students will find out their elective subjects  on Thursday 21 December (Year 8 Awards Assembly).

Year 8 parents and guardians wanting to complete their child's booklist order for 2018 can do so for the core subjects; English, Maths, Science, Core Physical Education and Humanities- Geography, History, Economics.

The elective subjects usually only require basic resources (exercise book, display folder). There are no textbooks for any elective subject.

PLEASE NOTE - Changes to subjects will be considered in the second week of full classes next year.  A 'Change of Subject Form' will be required to be completed and signed by a parent/guardian.  This form will be available on Compass next year.

Please note, not all changes will be possible due to course requirements and student numbers in classes.

S and N - All students

We encourage all students to ensure they are aiming for a ‘Satisfactory’ in every subject. The way in which to do this is to:

  • Be in class on time
  • Take all equipment
  • Have a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Persist with their work
  • Complete all work set for them
  • Complete all homework
  • Do the best possible with their assessments

Students should continue to self monitor and check their progress in every subject by writing in the planner, checking Compass and speaking with their teachers.

School Uniform

Just a reminder to all students that the expectation is that everybody is in full school uniform at all times.  As the end of the school year draws closer, there is no reason that this should change.

Please ensure that you are in the correct socks and shoes. NO ‘hoodies’ are to be worn at school and undershirts should not be visible.

Well done to those who always adhere to the school uniform policy.

Students NOT returning to LHS in 2018

We ask that parents and guardians contact the Junior  School Office as soon as possible, if your son or daughter is not returning to Lilydale High School next year.

An Exit Form  (available from the School Office)will be required to be completed and signed by a parent/guardian and returned to the School Office.

Unapproved Absences

Please assist us to fulfil our legal obligations and approve any outstanding absences your child may have on COMPASS.   Thank you.
