JUNIOR SCHOOL

Cyber Safety Session

On Friday 10 June,  all Year 7 and 8 students were lucky enough to participate in a Cyber Saftey session ran by Susan McLean.

Susan has experience in this area and served in the police force for over 25 years. Susan reflected on the importance of effectively using your privacy settings on all of our online accounts. She also discussed the detrimental effects inappropriate use of social media can have on yourself and others around you.

Students have now been using this session to reflect and discuss in Home Group.

Year 7 Home Group Activities

This week all Home Group classes have been taking part in a class line debate. The debate was around the impact technology has on our lives.

Students were able to come up with some excellent views. Including the impact social media has on mental and physical health.

Activity Reflections

Over the last term we have been doing some activities in Home Group.  One specific one I can remember was the five traits and strengths test, which was a test that we took over a few days that showed us what our five best traits and strengths were and what we were best at.

Some of the traits were:

  • Prudence
  • Creativity
  • Teamwork
  • Forgiveness
  • Social intelligence
  • Bravery
  • Love
  • Curiosity

The activities we have been doing in Home Group lately have been, 'Could one person change the world' or 'You should do 30 minutes or more of exercise each day'.

The 'Could one person change the world' was about Muhammad Ali and he changed the world. We also watched a video about what exercise does to the body, as well as why we should exercise every day.

Jordan Centracchio and Molly Ellen 7.39

Over the past few weeks we have been doing activities during Home Group.  We usually do thinking Thursday and Friday Frenzy but we have been doing different things.  We did a thing where we had to do exercise at home and write down how we felt before, during and after.  It was nice to do something different.

Darcy Marsden and Dustie Roberts 7.41

Hello, we are Teale Goss and Theo Georgiou, 7.46's amazing class captains. In the mornings for Home Group we do many different things. My amazing teacher is Mrs Mogilewska. We talk about what we have on for the day, share funny videos and videos from home. We have lots of fun in Home Group.

In Home Group last week we did an activity on Seth Franco.  We had to go over what we thought was cool and what he was trying to say and put it out there for younger children and older people.

One of the main things that we thought of as a Home Group, was how he explanined his story. With basketball, when he said "what he thinks" he used a basketball as a way of explaining what he did and how he got through it.  He said "It's kind of like when you drop the basketball it bounces back up, that's because on a basketball you have a hard skin and then the inside is soft".

Charlotte King and Jarryn Stephenson 7.47

In 7.48's Home Group, our whole form have been doing Thinking Thursday and Friday Frenzy every single Thursday and Friday. We have also been writing reflections on incursions that have been happening this term, like the Seth Franco incursion which was awesome to see and write about.

Ryan Harris and Ashiya King 7.48

In 7.49 we have been doing some class activities in Home Group. One of my favourite activities is one where you have two groups and you have to prove why your group is right, and after each point that you have made, you get to pick someone from the other group to join your group.

Braden Cox and Megan Guest 7.49

In Home Group every Friday,  we play a game called the Music Quiz. It's boys vs girls and Mr Rogers plays music from his phone. We can either name the song or the artist. Most people find the music quiz very enjoyable and entertaining. We also play lots of other games.

Alex Lamport and Blake Sparkes 7.50

Lately, we have been discussing our recent visit from basketball star, Seth Franco in Home Group.  Together as a class we have shared our thoughts on Seth's message and ways we can implement what he taught us in everyday life.

We have also been talking about ways to treat others respectably and responsibly. Our teacher Mr Hodder has been teaching us about being kind to one another and treating others the way we want to be treated.

Sienna Wyatt and Daniel O’Hea 7.51

For the past semester we have been doing little exercises during Home Group to build our resilience and friendships. We spoke about how we can make time to do homework at home and our goals for the end of the year.

At the start of the year we introduced ourselves to our class which will help boost some people’s self-confidence.

Jess Oates and Noah Fream 7.52

In Home Group 7.53, we have been working on many activities.  One of our favourites was a timetable. This timetable was made to help us use our homework time more wisely. We filled out two timetables, one was to do with home time, the other was to do with our school times.

Another favourite was our sports journal. Our journal was based on how much exercise we did each week.  Some of our class added in there training for their sport they play weekly. We all had a keynote presentation about our journal.

Home Group 7.53 has a really good time with all of the activities we do.

Holly Broadway and Rhys Studzinsky 7.53

In our Home Group, we have spent time getting to know each other better, and getting to know ourselves better. We have looked at our character strengths and weaknesses (using our planner). We also spent time discussing Seth Franco and what we took out of his story.

Charlie Granville 7.54

In all Year 7 Home Group rooms, everyone has been doing different activities.  In our home room we have been doing lots of activities, but two of them are Thinking Thursday and Friday Frenzy. This involves looking at a picture, poem, puzzle or paragraph of words and you have to think about it and then write about it.

The organisation sheets is something we write all our classes onto and what books we need to take to them, so we could be a bit more organised and stick the sheet in our locker.

Isobell Campbell and Tex Cavill 7.55

In Home Group this term,  we walk into our home room, pull out our iPads and check Compass.

We have a special caring teacher. Our teacher each morning reads the newsfeed to us.  He also trys to get everyone laughing with bad jokes and he comes around to talk to everyone to make sure they're okay.

Jordyn Reese and Jay Colverd 7.56

In the last two terms in our Home Group, we have been doing some special activities. These included (at the start of the year) writing down our goals for the year. One for home and two for school. Some of them included not getting a detention, completing all work/homework and not failing subjects.

Lately, we have been working on strengths and emotions.  The activities for this were in our planner. We had to select fives strengths we believe we have and write about things we have achieved. All the activities have been very positive and engaging.
