STUDENT LEADER'S NEWS

School Captains

We would like to congratulate everyone on their efforts throughout the mid-year exam week. It was used for great revision to revise and practice our skills from which we have been developing! For many of the VCE’s it is a very exciting time of the year as they have officially completed Unit 3, with the main focus of one unit to go!

Just recently, the Cross Country team represented Lilydale HIgh school at the Yarra Valley Race course. It was great to have many of our students represent Lilydale High School at this level. Well done to all the competitors.

Next week, the school is holding a friendly fundraiser for IDAHOT (International Day against Homophobia and transphobia). It is a day in which we recognise and acknowledge equality within society. We encourage all students to come along to participate in activities and enjoy some entertainment for all year levels, ranging from live music, face painting, guest speakers and lots of delicious sweets to choose from!

We wish you all a very safe, fun and happy mid-year break! Study hard and enjoy yourselves!  We are almost there. Stay positive!

Year 7 Captains

In Year 7 for the past few weeks, we have been pretty busy with our CATS and any other work we haven't finished.

In sport, our cross country runners went out for the second round on Tuesday 14 June.

Next week, we also have the Year 7 Boys Football EMR Quarter Finals being held on Tuesday 21 June and the Junior Girls (Years 7 to 9) Football EMR Quarter Finals on Monday 20 June. Good luck to both teams.

Year 8 Captains

The last couple of weeks in second term have been busy for the Year 8’s.

We have had many interschool sports go out as well as an incursion with the slam poet, Zohab Zee Khan.

When we went into the poetry workshop we weren’t really sure what to expect but we were all surprised. In the workshop he explained what poetry is and what it means to him. He told us some of his next poems and he also rapped for us. It was a really eye opening experience for us all!

Year 10 Captains

Hi all, it's been a busy few weeks for all Year 10 students hurriedly learning the last of the courses and starting to prepare and revise for exams which were held this week (Tuesday to Thursday).

This term, there's been a lot of sports days going out for Year 10 students, with soccer, football and netball all having fantastic days with many wins.  Well done to everyone!

Also many of the Year 10 students have been volunteering to help and coach the younger students of the school in there first rounds at sports days.

Humanities Captains

Recently, 11 students from Years 10, 11 and 12, including myself, have been on a 3 week tour in France.

We had a fabulous time sight-seeing and learning about the history of Paris. We visited places including Notre Dame de Paris, Sacré-Cœur, the Eiffel tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Louvre. We also went to significant sights of the French Revolution, such as the Place de la Concorde and the sight where the Bastille was located.

We then made our way to the town of Hénin-Beaumont to begin the homestay with our french exchange students. While in this region, we visited many memorials for World War 1, including Fromelles and Villers-Bretonneux, which are two significant Australian WW1 memorials.

Over all, it was a great experience and a fantastic opportunity for students to experience life in another country and to visit the places that we are taught in our history classes.
