Reading Relections
A window into what our students and staff have been reading, in their words.
Tyleasha (Year 9)
The best book I have read in the last few weeks was the rest of my Vampire Academy series, which was the 5th and 6th books in the series. I really enjoyed the series because it put me a little bit out of my comfort zone because there were different words I didn't understand. I really enjoyed the books. I reckon the life lesson was where the main character dropped out of school and then she had problems trying to catch up, so you have to keep going on with school no matter what. Other than that it was pure enjoyment, pure escape.
Taylar (Year 9)
I'm reading Thyla by Kate Gordon, It's about this girl that was found and this detective is trying to figure out what happened to her. He puts her through school and he took the case because she was found in the same place his daughter went missing. She's really smart and she knows all these words but doesn't know where she learnt them, and the book kind of revolves around that I guess. I like the book, it's different, it's like journeying with someone into their second life, because she can't remember. It's cool.
Ben (Teacher)
The Book I've been reading is called Tribe of Mentors by Tim Ferris, he has gone around and interviewed a whole bunch of celebrities involved in movies, entertainment, sports people and entrepreneurs and gotten short stories about their success. Probably my favourite one was Chris Rock, and he asks them all the same sort of questions like biggest achievements, if they were to present themselves on a billboard, what would they say or do, what was the best $100 they ever spent and I'm just interested to see what people have spent that on and what's important to them.
It surprised me how easy it was to read, each celebrity was only about maybe three or four pages so you can get through a few at the same time. It also surprised me that there were habits I have embedded into my lifestyle that were also in the book, so I felt like I am on the right track. The biggest takeaway was knowing you can make real minor changes to your lifestyle that bring about major impact, that to me is the most beneficial for people who read the book.
