YALP

Literacy & Numeracy Support

We have welcomed three new tutors to our Literacy and Numeracy support program this year. Our new numeracy tutors are Sam Walters and Molly Bohm and our literacy tutor is Shania Whitehead, who is working alongside Julie Forster, our experienced support staff member.

This term, our new tutors have been educated to deliver the YALP approach and will begin tutoring students as well as offering support to all students within many English and Maths classes throughout Year 7 to Year 9.

They will also work together with The Apprenticeship Factory and GoTAFE to complete a Certificate III in Education Support this year.

Since 2005, Shepparton High School has successfully delivered the Yachad Accelerated Learning Program (YALP) in order to accelerate the learning needs of our students. Through various diagnostic assessments, we are able to identify students who may have difficulty with literacy or numeracy concepts.

We use the YALP approach to support and develop the literacy and numeracy skills of these students. Selected students are withdrawn from class for ten minutes, three times a week in order to focus on an identified learning gap.

If your child has been selected for the YALP program in Term 2, you will receive notification through Xuno or email shortly. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me by email at glover.kylie.m@edumail.vic.gov.au
