New Books

We encourage everyone to either return or renew their overdue books.  Borrowing time is two (2) weeks.  Many books are popular, so other students are waiting for their return.  This is a simple task that addresses our core school value of responsibility. Thank you for returning or renewing your books. This month we have received some fantastic new books, here are a few to whet your appetite.

Layla by Fleur Beale  Lyla is in year 8 when a magnitude 6.3 earthquake shakes Christchurch, New Zealand.  Destruction is everywhere. Her police officer mother and trauma nurse father respond to the disaster and Lyla opens their home to neighbours and helps lead the community clean-up. As the earth keeps shaking, Layla discovers that not only are buildings crumbling and disappearing, but so are her friends and acquaintances.  How does Lyla find ways to cope with her new reality?

White Night by Ellie Marney  Bo Mitchell lives in a country town, his interests are school, footy, family and friends – not necessarily in that order.  That is, until he meets Rory Wild, a girl from an off-the-grid community called Garden of Eden.  Intrigue and secrets about the community fester and when the town gathers for the ‘White Night’ light show, Bo realises that the ‘Eden’ community is not everything it is cracked up to be.

Lucy’s Dawn by Juliet Blair.  Lucy is 14 and her life changes when she starts working in Louisa Lawson’s printery where only females are employed.  It’s the 1880’s and the male run print shops believe the women are stepping outside society bounds.  They make the girl’s lives difficult.  Lucy soon finds out who her real friends are and finds her first love.

Homework Club

The library is open straight after school until 5:00pm each Monday of Term. Snacks are provided and teachers will be available to help with any questions students might have. All students are welcome to attend Homework Club.

Bridge Club

Bridge has started up again in the library.  This will be held each Thursday.  All interested students should come at the start of lunchtime and bring their  lunch. The Shepparton Bridge Club send experienced volunteers to help you learn the game. Other schools are participating so we can hold an inter-school competition near the end of the year!

eBooks

24/7 eBook borrowing; you can download using your student ID and password.  These books disappear off your equipment after three weeks.  If you aren’t sure how it all works, come and speak to the librarians.
