eSmart Online Safety Issue #2

Welcome to Issue #2.

The internet never sleeps and is always changing as new viral trends make the rounds and new code is written to make our online lives more interesting and engaging- yet also somewhat potentially hazardous.

It’s not easy being a parent, let alone parenting in the modern digital age. Monitoring your children to keep them safe, whilst trying to keep up with all of the newest trends and ‘must see’ sensations can be very daunting.

There are a few things that you can do at home to foster a culture of digital safety. The eSafety website lists steps that you can take to be proactive and support your children to make good choices while using digital technology.

These include:

  • starting good habits from a young age
  • establishing a family tech agreement
  • adhering to age appropriate guidelines for games / social media.
  • having difficult conversations
  • learning how to effectively use parental controls
