Recording Studio Experience

Songwriting Competition winners finally make it to ‘Don’t Poke The Bear Studio’

After months waiting in anticipation, the winners of 2021’s ‘Make a Difference’ songwriting competition finally had their day in the Geelong studio recently.

Seven students were treated to a day in a professional recording studio with two gurus of the game on hand to help create the best versions of their songs.

Winners of the competition; Ben Black, Zac Charity, Finn McAlinden, Gabe Hanlon and Hugh Daffy used their time to lock in the best tempo, vocal harmonies and simply savor the experience of recording as a group.

Michael Millar (Piano) and Marissa Gibbs (Saxophone) entered the studio as soloists and with one take had their track ready.

Not only was it amazing to watch the pieces come together, it was also eye opening to see ‘behind the scenes’ action happening in the tech room.

It was such an awesome experience, something that I’ll never forget. It pushed you out of your comfort zone whilst somehow still feeling comfortable, and the equipment there was incredibleBen Black
