“If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised from the dead, you will be saved”. Romans 10:9:

Dearest Marian Community,

As our College term comes to a close, so does our Lenten journey. Term 1 has proved to be an exciting and eventful term, as our College spirit was brought back to life through the many opportunities that we were able to engage with. This term was highlighted by Caritas - Project Compassion, Harmony Day, College Masses and Tonga Tsunami Relief Fundraiser.

Year 12 finally had the opportunity to attend their long awaited camp. After a few set backs thanks to COVID and restrictions, Year 12 bonded over three days through an array of different experiences. One of the main lessons to have come out of this experience is the importance of coming together as a year group to overcome the obstacles of the HSC. I believe we can see this through the evolution of the Year 12 theme from “I can and I will” to “We can and we will”. Only together can our Year 12 overcome their final year at Marian Catholic College. I would personally like to thank Mr Lawler, Mr Jatan, Mrs Brooker and Ms Davis for their work and support to bring the Year 12 camp to life.

Due to a few obstacles, our Harmony Day assembly was held in Homerooms during Period 2 on…. Instead of gathering as a college in the hall. A Harmony Day video was watched by all staff and students which included our cultural performances, flag procession and a video which involved our Year 12 students. Our Harmony Day this year was themed around creating a place where we all belong. Our staff and students assisted in bringing together the theme in a way that connected everyone in our College. We were fortunate to still be able to experience the authentic cuisines of all the cultures that our College has to offer and I extend my sincere thanks to all who contributed to both the preparing of these stalls and the cultural performances.

Our Easter Mass was a success and I thank Fr Cyprian for again providing another service that allowed our students and staff to connect to our faith and rejuvenate our spirit. As we head towards the end of our Lenten journey, I remind our community on the importance of participating in the Rite of Reconciliation.

Some important dates that are advertised by Sacred Heart Parish:

Reconciliation:

Tuesday 12th of April - 7:00 pm

Good Friday - 8:30 - 9:30 pm and 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

On behalf of Marian Catholic College, I would like to wish Fr Cyprian a safe return to his homeland of Nigeria, where he will have the opportunity to reconnect with his family and friends. I hope you enjoy your time away and we look forward to hearing all your stories once you return.

We now look forward to Term 2, where it will be another term full of opportunities for our College community to demonstrate the Marian spirit and further develop our compassionate culture that we are building. In Term 2, we have NAIDOC week, I-Care Kits, our Brendan and Marcellin Feast days, and the recommencement of the class visits from our College Chaplain Fr Cyprian once he returns from his overseas trip. NAIDOC week activities will be based on the 2022 theme “Get up, Stand up, and Show up”, this will occur in Week 10 of term 2. I-Care Kits will be our College service project for Term 2, where each Year group will require its students to donate a particular item to support those less fortunate within our Griffith community. Each year group will be allocated two particular items that will lead to the success of this project. More information about I-Care Kits will be released in Term 2.

Marian, you finished Term 1 in true Marian spirit and I cannot wait to see how you continue to flourish in Term 2. I wish you all a very happy Easter and a well deserved break. Enjoy your time with your families and your break from studies, ready to come back for Term 2 rejuvenated, refreshed, ready to grow and take on the new challenges and opportunities that come our way.

Until next term, remember ...

“Happiness is not something ready-made. It comes from your own actions”

Happy Easter to all,

Mr Abdala
