Parents and Friends Association

AGM and Next Meeting:

The Parents & Friends Association invites all new and returning families to attend the upcoming AGM and first meeting of the new committee on Monday 28 March 2022 at 7pm at The John Landy Centre.  You will have the opportunity to meet our current group of parents who are the P&F for EDSC and we will be happy to share how this dynamic group supports the College.

The Parents and Friends Committee is an informal, friendly group of interested parents who provide assistance at various school functions throughout the year such as information nights, music nights, school production, parent/teacher interview days etc. P&F also fundraises with a focus to raise extra funds to use on worthwhile projects that will benefit the college community.

Come join us, be involved and stay informed about the exciting events that take place in our child’s school.

Those who have already expressed interest will be sent an email invite again like last month.  If any more members of the school community would like to join in please email Aban at aban2309@yahoo.com and we will very happily add you on to the distribution list.

17 March - EDSC Open Night

The Parents & Friends Association was able to support the College community at the Open Night on Thursday 17 March 2022. We set up a stall in the 400 Block where we welcomed many prospective families and shared some wonderful experiences that we have all had over the years at the school.  It was fantastic to see our students with great leadership roles and manners, presenting the best of EDSC to prospective families. PFA would also like to give special thanks to our parent volunteers who helped out on that night.

30 March – Parent Teacher Interviews

Look out for some delicious goodies at our Hot Cross Buns/Baked Goods Stall in The John Landy Centre at the Term 1 Parent Teacher Interviews.  We hope to receive your support in large numbers.  We do only take cash payments at the stall, so please bring along some cash for our yummy goodies.  If you would like to volunteer to help us at the stall please do email us at aban2309@yahoo.com.

16 April - Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

The PFA Committee is very happy to announce that Bunnings Sausage Sizzle Fundraiser will be back this year at the new Bunnings Doncaster store.  We are looking forward to doing multiple fundraisers there.  Our first Sausage Sizzle will be on Saturday 16 April 2022 at Bunnings Doncaster.

Please watch this space for further details in later newsletters.   If anyone from the school community over the age of 17 is interested in volunteering for this Sausage Sizzle fundraiser stall at Bunnings please email Aban at aban2309@yahoo.com.  We will be delighted to include you in our list of volunteers.

A Quote for the Wise John W Holt, Jr.

“The true test of character is not how much we know how to do, but how we behave when we don’t know what to do.”

Why do we get angry simply because someone holds different views to us?

The answer I believe, is that we actually don’t get angry, we get scared. Like many fears, this emotion manifests itself in irrational forms, and the way it plays out simply looks like anger.

But, it’s not anger. It’s fear.

When we encounter someone who has what sounds like a reasonable and convincing view on a particular subject that challenges one of ours, we get scared. The more our mind tells us that the alternative position sounds good, the more scared we get. The subconscious question then becomes: “If I’m wrong about this, what else am I wrong about?”

And well, that’s a scary position to be in.

If we can exercise self-awareness in those moments and start to challenge firstly, our anger and secondly, our viewpoints, there is a real capacity for growth.
