Free students resources at local libraries

EDSC students are encouraged to join the Whitehorse Manningham Library (WML) service to access studying and skills training resources FREE.

Students who are WML members can access Studiosity and LinkedIn Learning by logging in to the library website at https://www.wml.vic.gov.au/Services/eLibrary/Study-Help-Learning.

Studiosity offers students live, one-on-one study support with a Studiosity subject specialist in the interactive classroom. Students can ask for help with core literacy, numeracy, science, or study skills, and can submit essays, job applications or resumes to receive feedback in less than 24 hours.

LinkedIn Learning provides a large variety of Professional Development videos and courses, including subjects like coding, graphic design, and job searching.

Student Library Book Requests

Thank you to all students who have requested books they would like to read as part of EDSC Library’s Book Orders program this year.

Last month we received 40 student orders and were able to buy 80% of these books.

We have been delighted by the interesting and varied fiction and non-fiction orders, including biographies and poetry, which students have submitted.

Our Book Orders program means that if the Library doesn’t have a book that a student would like to read, we will buy it for the Library, as long as the book is available, is not too expensive, and is appropriate for our collection.

Our Book Orders program ensures that our Library collection is responsive to students’ reading needs and preferences.

To order a book, students just need to fill out the simple ‘Order a Library Book’ form on our Library website

The Library places book orders once a month, and will email the requesting student when the new book arrives so that they can be the first person to borrow it.

New Library eBook and audiobook instructions

Library staff have produced new instructions for students to use our eBooks and audiobooks in the Sora app with customised options.

The updated instructions show students how to change settings to improve accessibility, especially helpful for students with dyslexia or reading difficulties.

Students can also learn how to link their Sora app to public libraries, instantly increasing the range of eBooks and audiobooks they can read.

The new instructions can be downloaded via this link.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Update

Amazing work – 147 EDSC students have already read an impressive 1153 books in the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge this year.

Congratulations to Kevin Z of 7C, who has joined the growing list of students who have read the 15 books needed to attend our end-of-year celebration and receive a certificate from the Victorian Premier.

Congratulations also to Arshia K of 7I who won a canteen voucher in our third fortnightly random draw, just by entering his books into the Google Form on our Challenge webpage

This year, we are counting all the books Year 7 to 10 students (and school staff!) read from January 31 to September 2.

Students can read ANY books they like (excluding children’s picture books). We are awarding lots of individual prizes to students throughout the year to acknowledge reading efforts.

All details and our leaderboard are on our EDSC VPRC webpage
