Multicultural Club

Our second Multicultural club event in term 1 was a mochi-making workshop!

Our club members were really excited to plan and demonstrate this workshop at lunch time.

Mochi (a.k.a Japanese rice cake) is a traditional dessert that is significant in Japanese culture and many other Asian countries, where the process of streaming glutinous rice began. It is often present in historic cultural celebrations symbolising prosperity and long life in different Asian cultures. In Modern day Japan, mochi is always present in different seasonal celebrations like new year, spring festival days, children’s day and many more.

Mochi has a sticky and chewy texture. In the traditional sense, the mochi was covered with soy bean powder or sesame powder. Now, modern ways of consuming this product have many creative ways with different fillings, in soups and toppings ranging from fruits to nuts and pastes, and even different flavour creams.

Thanks to our club members and teachers that help demonstrate and facilitate the session! Everyone had lots of fun making the mochi and now they can take home the recipe if they would like to make it for their family and friends!

Keep an eye out for Compass Newsfeed and notices for more activities from the Multicultural Club that will run every GOLD week Thursdays lunch time.
