Tackling Bullying

One of our major areas of focus for the last few years has been teaching children about bullying as a key part of building a safe and supportive school environment that reflects our school value of kindness.

We want all of our students to understand what bullying is, how it feels and what it looks like. We want them to know what to do if they are being bullied and to ensure that they never join in with any unkind, bullying behaviour. We want them to understand the role of the bystander as someone who can help to make things better for others. We want to see less bullying happen at SKiPPS.

The good news is that this work is paying off - our 2021 Student Attitudes to School survey saw far fewer children reporting that they had been the victim of bullying than in previous years and far fewer than the average across the State.

To build on this good work, we celebrated the recent National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (March 18th) by running a whole school poster competition.

Classes discussed the 2022 theme of 'Kindness Culture: it starts with you' and how this neatly matched our own school value of kindness.

Students then created their own poster to inspire others to show kindness and to be an 'upstander' for others (rather than a 'bystander').

Below are the winning designs from our Year 3-6 students - these will be printed and displayed around the school over the next few weeks to carry on the important conversations happening about kindness and bullying at SKiPPS.
