Dear Parents,

Welcome back to school students, staff and parents. Everyone looks refreshed and ready to start a new term. Term two promises to be yet another busy term with Education Week, NAPLAN Assessment, the Mother’s Day Stall, excursions, reports and of course, teaching & learning.

Mother’s Day Stall

Our fundraising subcommittee will be holding a Mother’s Day stall next Thursday 5th of May so that students can make purchases for their mother, grandmother, or special person in preparation for Mother’s Day. Please send money to school with your child on that day.

NAPLAN

What is Naplan? The National Assessment Program– Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual National assessment for all students in years 3, 5, 7 and 9. All students in these year levels participate in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy tests.

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) 2022 tests for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students will be held on Tuesday 10th, Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th of May 2022.

All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. Should your child be unable to participate in the assessment, please see your child’s teacher. We encourage all our students to strive to achieve their personal best in preparation and during these tests.

Attendance

There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes.

We all want our students to get a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school on time each and every day. Missing school can have a major impact on a child’s future – a student missing one day a fortnight will miss four full weeks by the end of the year. By Year 10, they will have missed more than a year of school. Arriving to school late can also affect students’ learning.

Uniform

School uniform promotes a sense of identity, pride, cohesion and good order in a school. It allows students to feel equal and enhances individual student safety and group security, as well as enhancing the profile and identity of the school and its students within the wider community. The School Council Policy of Albanvale PS states that uniform is compulsory for the students of Albanvale. It is important that parents are vigilant in ensuring students’ appearance reflects the expectations of the school community. We would appreciate your assistance in ensuring that a high standard of uniform is maintained. lease note: Socks must be worn with closed shoes, jeans or leggings under dresses are not allowed.

Please refer to the Uniform Policy available on our website. Students who consistently present out of uniform will be asked to change.

Outside of School Care Provider

From Term 2, our school will be changing our preferred out of school care provider to Big Childcare based at Victoria University SC. Recently, we have had several parents provide feedback to us that Sweet Sounds were at capacity and unable to accept their bookings. Big Childcare is a significantly larger space which will allow any family who wishes to engage with an out of school care provider the opportunity. Like our current arrangements, a bus will drop off and pick up students from our school and transport them to the OSHC provider.
