Around the Classrooms

Foundation

It has been a wonderful start to Term 2 for our Foundation Students. Week 1 was full of excitement as the students shared stories from their holidays, reconnected with their friends and settled back into school routines. A visit from Harold the Giraffe as part of Life Ed was a highlight for students. They explored ways to take care of themselves and others and their participation was terrific. Cross Country was another highlight of the week. We were blown away by the resilience demonstrated by students on the day as they all participated and tried their best. The Colour Explosion was a great way to celebrate a wonderful first week back.

Year 1 and 2

It has been an exciting start to Term 2 in the Junior Building. Students have started their new content knowledge focus of “Continents and Countries”. We will be learning about countries all around the world, and have already started exploring how and why maps are used.

Also, the grade 1/2s had an amazing time on Friday competing in the Cross Country and Colour Explosion. The students had so much fun getting to complete the obstacle course while being sprayed in the different colours. A clear highlight was getting to cover their friends in the powder too! It was a very messy, but very exciting moment for all the kids involved. All the 1/2 teachers were impressed with how well the students behaved on the day and were so proud of how they all did in the event!

Year 3 and 4

'ARGH ME HEARTIES!' Since the beginning of term, students have been reading the text Treasure Island! We have walked the plank and plunged headfirst into learning about 18th century buccaneers and the adventures of Billy Bones. We've discovered some unusual vocabulary words, figurative language and even tried our hand at using these in our own work. Students have worked 'with the pluck of a weevil in a biscuit' to design their own pirate characters! Perhaps your child can tell you what this figurative language phrase means!

Year 5 and 6

In the first week of term the Senior students began our geography topic 'Lake of the World'. They studied lakes in Africa and South America. Our students made tri-Venn diagrams to compare the features of the lakes they studied.

In Text Construction students wrote a narrative based on a bear fishing for salmon with its cub. From this writing, students practised text planning and character development.

Maths was all about multiplication. We learnt different multiplication strategies. Also, some students completed pre-assessments in multiplication and division.

And of course, the cross country was a triumph with all Senior students enjoying the day.
