Mr Irwin's Message

Mr. Irwin's Message

Hi Families and welcome to this week’s newsletter.

Unfortunately, I’m currently at home resting up unwell with a sick household. There won’t be a video message this week, however I had added in a video of the ‘sliming’ that occurred on Friday at Cross Country in case you missed it!

Colour Explosion/Cross Country Success!

What a fantastic day Friday was. It was obvious the amount of fun students had participating in the colour explosion obstacle course at the end of their Cross Country race. Because of the effort of our community in this fundraiser we’ve been able to raise nearly $8,000 to contribute towards landscaping play areas at the front of the school. What a stunning effort!

A huge thank you must go to our Parents' Club, particularly Lauren and Sophie, for their hard work in the lead up to the day. There was the sourcing of 250 white t-shirts, organising of cookies, organising colour powder supplies and then bringing it all together on the day. We’re also very grateful to parents who contributed with sponsorship, volunteered to help on the day in either the Cross Country event or Colour Explosion Obstacle Course or even just attending and adding to the atmosphere of the day.

Place getters from each age group will be presented with their ribbons at the first assembly of term, next Friday May 13th. There will be no assembly this Friday afternoon as we have our Inter School Cross Country event happening for selected students.

Communication Channels

In the lead-up to Friday's event we received a larger than normal amount of questions regarding details of the event, all of which had been previously communicated. Given this was the case, I thought it was a chance to remind families of how we communicate important information and to ensure your details are up to date.

Email is our primary point of whole school contact. Information regarding whole school events will come here, as well as being alerted to in the latest newsletter. If you didn’t receive an email regarding Cross Country in the lead up to last Friday or have changed your email recently please check in so we can clarify with you the email we have on file that we send correspondence to. It may also be worthwhile checking your spam or junk folder in case it has headed there.

SMS we use for short messages (such as Cross Country is going ahead that we sent on Friday at around 11:30am). Again, if you didn’t receive this please check in with the office to ensure we have your current mobile number on hand.

Facebook/Instagram we use to reiterate communication sent via email and also share happenings around the school. You can search Teesdale Primary School on either platform to follow these!

School Photo Day - NEW date

Due to circumstances out of our control, our whole school photo day has been changed to Tuesday 10th May. Please read the attached information which details the process for registering and ordering photos.

Lost Property

We have had a number of enquiries from parents looking for lost property after the Cross Country event last Friday. Could families please check labels on jumpers and bags just in case they happen to  have an item that doesn't belong to them. Please also ensure your child's uniform and school bag are labelled so that lost items can be reunited with their rightful owner.

Year 6 to 7 Transition

Families with year 6 students transitioning to year 7 in 2023 should have received an email containing information about sending their child to either a Government or Non-Government Secondary School. Please refer to the attached documents.

- Application for Year 7 Placement 2022 Form- Privacy Notice

Please print and complete the Application for Year 7 Placement 2022 Form and return to the school office by Friday 13 May 2022

If you are intending to send your child to a Non-Government Secondary School, please contact them directly for their enrolment process. However, you must fill in Section 5 of the Application for Year 7 Placement 2022 Form if you intend to send your child to a Non-Government school.

Healthy Lunch Box Choices and Nude Food

At the end of last term, all classrooms received new bins to manage waste, including recycling and general rubbish. All students are encouraged to bring 'Nude Food' to school in their lunch boxes which in simple terms means food without excess packaging. To help reduce waste in our school, students will be asked to take home soft plastic packaging from their lunch boxes and encouraged to discuss soft plastics recycling with their families. The local Woolworths in Bannockburn does receive soft plastics rubbish which is a close option to recycle soft plastics waste. The Healthy Lunch Box Pick & Mix posters below provide some good Nude Food options for school lunch boxes too.
