Intra School Cross Country
Last week we ran our Intra School Cross Country Carnival. Whilst we are very fortunate to have amazing running tracks attached to the school, we have no control over the weather. It was a miserable day to introduce our first ever Junior Cross Country event but the rewards were many and varied.
Our seniors run distances of 2 kms and 3 kms with different goals from each individual. Some want to finish first, some aim for a top ten and district qualification. Some aim to run the entire distance without walking whilst others just want to finish the darn race and get back inside. It is an event where everyone who crosses the finish line can put their arms up in jubilation that they have finished. It is a grueling sport and the little pile of sand just after the finish line can attest to that. Get well soon Chloe.
The winners of our senior events were:
9/10 Year Old Girls - Lucy (1st), Evie (2nd) and Scarlett (3rd).
9/10 Year Old Boys - Patrick, Zane and Noah
11 Year Old Girls - Mika, Samara and Olivia
11 Year Old Boys - Aidan, Cooper and Thomas
12 Year Old Girls - Teaghan, Sienna and Ruby
12 Year Old Boys - Jake, Charlie and Will
I can not tell you the winning house yet as that will be announced at Monday's assembly.
Our Juniors event started under dark clouds. The Year 2s (1.2 kms) went first and it began to spit, The year 1s (400 m) ran in the drizzle and our preps (400 m) ran through the rain. They were soaked, they were cooked, they were laughing and they were very good. This comment was overheard by one of our teachers as a mum walked over to her prep daughter and asked if she was ok because she was getting wet. Her daughter looked up with a smile and replied "That's ok, it was part of the fun.
The day's success is due to the many that contributed to to the smooth running. I would like to thank the staff for keeping the kids enthusiastic, to Carmel, Michelle and Tanya for their support of the junior event, to Frank for mowing a safe passage through the long grass and to the many parents who came along and cheered on the kids in the cold conditions. The young ones loved running in front of the PAC where the rowdier of spectators stood. Awesome job guys!
Finally, thank you to the parents who stood out in the wetlands for being a course marshal. They don't get to see their child finish or start. They only see their child flash pass them for a few seconds, but they also get to see the hundreds of other runners and ensure it is a safe and supporting environment for all. Thank you to Kate G, Lorissa B, Jen L, Jess C, Allison M, Danielle M, Fiona L, Catherine H, Gareth B, Kristin B, Tash B, Laurette C, Melinda V, Kate S, Tim M, Tania N, Krista W, Fiona W, Sabina H, Holly M Emma C, Erin H, Lauren D. I apologise if I missed any. Thank you volunteering and allowing us to have such a successful day.
