EASTER WORSHIP TIMES

Everyone is welcome to join us at St Paul Lutheran Church for our Easter Services across the Easter weekend.

HOLY WEEK

Holy Week is the last week of the Church Season of Lent, starting on Palm Sunday and leading up to Easter.  Lent is often described as a journey and Holy Week is the culmination, where Jesus coming to earth to save humankind by dying on the cross on Good Friday and resurrecting on Easter Sunday are reflected upon.

There are several significant days in Holy Week:

Maundy Thursday: On this day, Jesus celebrated the Passover feast with the disciples. We know this feast as the Last Supper and this is the night where He was betrayed by Judas and arrested. During this meal Jesus acted as a humble servant and washed the feet of his disciples as an act of love.  Some Christian traditions include foot washing in their service as a reminder that we too should be willing to serve others.

Good Friday: Is a solemn day where Christians recall the trial, punishment and death of Jesus.

Holy Saturday: Commemorates Jesus’ body resting in the tomb.

Easter Sunday: arrives at the end of Holy Week and is one of the most significant day in the Christian calendar as it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and his victory over sin and death.  It is because of this victory that everyone who believes in Jesus will one day live with him for eternity in Heaven.

JELLY BEAN PRAYER

The Jelly Bean Prayer is a short Easter poem that tells the true story of Resurrection Sunday by using the colours of the jelly beans.

EASTER ACTIVITY – STATIONS OF THE CROSS

The Stations of the Cross refers to a series of images, or ‘stations’ depicting Jesus on the day of his death on a cross.  They are commonly ordered along a path and used as a mini pilgrimage as a person moves from station to station, pausing to reflect and pray at each specific event from Jesus’ last day, starting with his condemnation and ending with his death.

An outdoor, interactive Stations of the Cross journey located at Houghton is open this Friday 7th April, to anyone who may be interested.

Easter Blessings from all of us in the St Paul Lutheran Congregation to our wider School Community.
