Online Safety

Keeping your child safe online

With the rise in technology use such as 3G mobile telephones, instant messaging, online games and the popularity of social networking sites, today’s youth have access to and are accessible by many millions of people worldwide. At Aberfeldie, we are dedicated to teaching students to be safe and responsible digital citizens, in and outside of school. This year we are embedding digital citizenship into our curriculum, especially in the upper years where students are more likely to be using online platforms and messaging systems outside of school. Some of the key actions we are taking include:

  • Explicitly teaching online safety within our classrooms
  • Scheduling external experts to support student learning. In Week 6, we have a community member from Vic Police speaking with Year 5/6 students about online safety and how to have positive online experiences.
  • Seeking external experts to run information sessions with parents and the wider community (watch this space)

In the meantime, The eSafety Commissioner is providing a range of free webinars that give parents and carers the knowledge, skills and tools to support their children to have safe, positive online experiences. You can register at: https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents/webinars
