A message and update from Nathan Gage
Hello everyone and thank you for taking the time to read through our newsletter this week. We trust that everyone had a restful mid-semester break and are ready to leap into term two. This term is a 'short' one, sitting at nine weeks with a couple of public holidays dotted through the term. Thankfully NAPLAN is out of the way and we can get stuck into the core business of teaching and learning.
Curriculum Day
To start the term off, we had our student free curriculum day. All staff ventured to the Melbourne Museum, where everyone engaged in some high level learning that focused on practice excellence. We started the day with some reflection from term one before diving into some research into effective practice and setting some team goals and objectives for practice improvement. Over lunch we were able to take a break to explore the museum and gain some inspiration for the year ahead. The final session of the day continued to look at practice improvement, however was aligned to our work with the SWPBS and looked at ways to encourage the expected behaviours of our students. It was a very valuable day that, with the learning from our staff already visible in classrooms now.
Welcome
We have a number of staff who joined the Aberfeldie team this term. We welcomed back Michelle Apollonio, after some time away, who joins our tutoring and support team. It was great to see her back here and we have been grateful for the impact she is already having with our students.
Our Education Support team grew a little larger going into this term as we welcomed Fay and Jack to the team. These two individuals have already made their mark and are having a wonderfully positive impact on our students.
Please join us in welcoming them to Abers.
Playground
I know...
A topic that is hot on everyone's lips. I'm hoping to get confirmation from the Department of Education to commence the next stages of getting our playground project up and running soon. This is quite a large process that has a huge number of steps that sit behind the scenes with the school building authority. We will update everyone once we know more.
Education Week
Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria.
This year Victoria will celebrate Education Week from Sunday 14 May to Saturday 20 May.
This year’s theme is ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’, which celebrates physical activity, hands-on learning and student voice in education.
A number of learning experiences will be happening across the school to celebrate this years' theme. Stay tuned through Seesaw to see more and don't forget to chat with your children at home about their learning.
Mother's Day Stall
Huge thank you to all of the volunteers who have helped out with the Mother's Day stall this week. It has been great to see so many eager students keen to purchase a unique gift for that special mother or mother figure in their lives. We hope that all the mums and mother figures out there have a wonderful mothers day spent with the little ones you love and care for so much.
Second Hand Uniform Shop
Aberfeldie is still looking for a volunteer to help coordinate our second hand uniform store. If there is something you may be interested in helping us out with, please touch base with the office.
We hope you've had a great start to the term. Thank you for your support and engagement.
