Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

FOUNDATION INFORMATION NIGHT- ENROLMENTS OPEN

We held our annual Foundation Information Session on Monday and we were delighted with the attendance on the evening.

Our wonderful Foundation teachers Julie Giblin and April-Lee Sandri gave parents an in-depth account of life at Warrnambool Primary School for our students.

It was very pleasing to have our JSC executive welcome the parents and we were fortunate that School Councillors and parents Adele Smith and Janine Kairl were on hand to give a parent perspective. We are holding tours over the coming week which will also give parents a good insight what our great school has to offer.

Enrolments are now open, so if you or someone you know is keen to enrol their child for next year please complete the forms or contact the school for more information. We look forward to welcoming new students to Warrnambool Primary School.

PURPLE DAY FOR EPILEPSY AWARENESS - THURSDAY 11TH MAY

Next Thursday 11th May the school will be holding a Purple Day for Epilepsy Awareness. We currently have students within the school who live with various types of Epilepsy and this will provide an opportunity for our students to be more aware and understand what Epilepsy is. We are asking that everyone wears a touch of purple (a ribbon, t-shirt, socks etc) in support.

MOTHER’S DAY STALL - FRIDAY 12TH May 2023

The WPPA is holding a Mother’s Day stall on Friday 12th May 2023. All items are $5 with a limit of two per child. If you are able to assist please contact the school office. It’s another great event which our WPPA are organising for us and on our behalf.

Our Foundation Students will be celebrating Mother's Day by asking their Mum's/Special Person to come for an Afternoon Tea on Friday 12th May at 2.30pm. There will be a light afternoon tea in the infant gym followed by some quality time in the classroom. We look forward to seeing you there.

PUPIL FREE DAY - MONDAY 15TH MAY

A reminder that School Council passed Monday 15th May 2023 as a dedicated Pupil Free Day for Numeracy Professional Learning.

Children are not required at school on this day however, Their Care will be offering their program for those families who require care.

EDUCATION WEEK - MONDAY15TH to FRIDAY 19TH MAY 2023

Education Week is an annual celebration of education in Victoria. This year Victoria will celebrate Education Week from Monday 15th May to Friday 20th May 2023.

This year’s theme is ‘Active Learners: Move, Make, Motivate’ which celebrates physical activity, hands-on-learning and student voice in education.

As part of the fun we are holding our Whole School Open Night on Tuesday 16th May 2023 from 5.30pm. There will be a free sausage sizzle and door prizes to be won.

The best part of the evening will be to visit your child’s classroom and catch up with the staff and other school community members.

The children love seeing their parents and families in their school. I look forward to seeing you all there!

CARE EDUCATION EVENT - MONDAY 22ND MAY 7PM

Care Education and Warrnambool Primary School invite all Parents and Carers of Years 3-6 students to an information session on Monday 22nd May at 7pm in the BER. YEAR 5 WARRNAMBOOL LIBRARY EXCURSION

On Wednesday, Year 5 students went to Warrnambool Library to meet Australian author, Cristy Burne. Students participated in an interactive suspense writing workshop. Cristy was very engaging and provided some great tips for our young authors. Cristy has written several books, which are available to borrow at the Warrnambool library and to purchase at local bookshops.

YEAR 6 WARRNAMBOOL LIBRARY EXCURSION

On Wednesday last week, Year 6 students had the privilege of listening to author, illustrator, and the 2022/2023 Australian Children's Laureate, Gabrielle Wang. The students attended the Warrnambool Library to participate in a class to inspire their imagination. They were all taken on a journey through Gabrielle's childhood adventures, many of which have inspired her writing today. A crash course in character illustrations was delivered and as a result, we may now see some new artistic talent emerge! Another terrific opportunity for our students. Thank you to Ed Ezzy and the Warrnambool Library.

YEARS 3-6 CROSS COUNTRY

Last Friday students from Years 3-6 braved the cold weather for the annual Cross Country event. It was fantastic to see all the students participating and giving it their best. Congratulations to all the winners and those who have qualified for Districts next Friday, we wish you all the best.

CYBER SAFETY

All people have the right to feel safe and that includes in the on-line environment. There is no excuse for any people to be rude, abusive or threatening to any other person. There has been enough education and information circulated around this topic over several years for inappropriate on-line behaviours to cease. This is also relevant for students at Warrnambool Primary School. Please ensure that you speak with your children around cyber safety and appropriate behaviour. We want all students, staff and community members to feel safe when they are using technology. Be aware also of the user agreements for the main social media platforms which preclude children under 13 years of age from holding accounts.

Have a wonderful weekend!
