Numeracy

This term, we will continue to provide opportunities for students to use hands on manipulatives and real world examples, during Numeracy sessions. Furthermore, every numeracy task will continue to have an enabling and extension element to ensure that the learning intention is achievable for all students. 

 

This term, the Level 1 and 2 students will be covering the following topics:

  • Place Value
    • Recognise, model, read, write and order numbers to at least 100
    • Locate numbers on a numberline
    • Understanding two-digit numbers as being comprised of tens and ones
  • Skip counting
    • Finish number sequences that increase and decrease by various numbers
  • Sharing
    • Sharing collections into equal groups
  • Addition and Subtraction
    • Using a range of mental strategies such as counting on, doubles, partitioning and rearranging parts
    • Exploring the connection between addition and subtraction
  • Money
    • Adding and subtracting simple money amounts
  • Shape
    • Recognising the features of 2D & 3D shapes
  • Time
    • Identifying the features of a clock
    • Recognising o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to
  • Problem solving
    • Giving students the opportunity to apply their knowledge by giving space to approach a task from their own perspective. This is often launched with a narrative link and some sort of connection to the real world.
