Inquiry Based Learning
Each Term, our students have a BIG QUESTION that they frame their learning around. These questions are based on learnings that connect our Faith and Life experiences as well as aligning with the Victorian Curriculum. The basis for these questions stem from an Inquiry based learning approach. Although School of The Good Shepherd has adopted an inquiry way of learning in the past, as part of our School Improvement Plan, we are strategically working towards ensuring that everyone (students, staff and parents) has a shared understanding of what Inquiry Based Learning is.
School Priority 1: To cultivate a learning environment that focuses on shared pedagogy based on evidence and achieving growth for all students.
Join us on our journey of INQUIRY BASED LEARNING APPROACH!
Kath Murdoch is an experienced teacher and renowned world expert in Inquiry Based Learning. In her book, the Power of Inquiry, she refers to inquiry as:
"Inquiry is about what learners do. It involves numerous connected skills, dispositions and processes. It is a fluid, sometimes messy and complex process. The intention of 'The Cycle of Inquiry' is to guide the teacher’s and learner’s thinking towards a more thoughtful process that assists students to move from the known into the unknown and to engage in fruitful dialogue (Murdoch, 2017).
As a staff, we will be working through Kath Murdoch’s teachings about Inquiry Based Learning, drawing on her expertise and the expertise of our staff.
TERM 2 FAITH LIFE LEARNING
