Classroom News

Foundation Miss Bennett

It's been a cracking start to Term 2 for Foundation with lot's of learning and fun things happening. We were EXTRA excited about our first time completing the St Pat's cross country course and have been learning about colour, shapes and number patterns, as well as our new letter sounds B, H and N. The students also got to be involved in the first Student Advisory Council meeting run by our Foundation leaders Alex and Lottie.

When learning about patterns the students went on a 'Pattern walk' around the school. Students had to find patterns made out of colour or shape. They also began learning about number patterns and skip counting by 10's to 100. Students practiced their skip counting by creating a 'Skippy Frog'.

During the meeting the students had to discuss what things are working well inside the classroom and out in the yard and what things aren't working well in the classroom or out in the yard. They also had to provide any suggestions they had to improve our school. Alex and Lottie did an AMAZING job running the meeting, they spoke in a loud voice, gave each student a turn and worked as a team. It made Miss Bennett and Abby very proud.

Term 1 Inquiry Celebrations

During the last week of Term 1 we celebrated what we had been learning about in Inquiry. In Grade 1/2 we had a strong focus on belonging and we looked at all the different places/groups/people that we belong to.

Religion

This week during Religion with Mrs Corso we learnt about 'Pentecost'. We learnt that Pentecost is a special celebration, when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. In the pictures you can see that some students have illustrated who was present in the room at Pentecost.

 Grade 1-2 Miss Hart

What a jam packed first two weeks we have had back at school for Term 2! Over the first few days we really enjoyed sharing our stories from the school holidays and Easter Break - it sounds like everyone has had a fun, yet restful break.

In Maths this term we have started learning about Addition and Volume & Capacity. The students have been completing a fast facts addition sheet each day as a warm up into the lesson. These fast facts are a great tool to increase our addition fluency and understanding. We have explored Volume and Capacity by using a variety of equipment such as blocks and sand to fill spoons, bowls, cups. We have had to firstly estimate how many spoons, or cups of these objects it would take to reach the top.

In Religion this term, we have started learning about Pentecost. Students have recognised that Pentecost is a special celebration when we remember the coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples. The students responded to the story with a drawing of what they believe the celebration looks like, as well as decorating a flame.

In Writing, we have started our new text-based unit on the book ‘The Imagineer.’ We have started this unit by introducing key text definitions and examples. Students have learnt and started using words like miniscule, persistent, imagination and stacked.

We can’t wait for what is to come this term - it should be a very exciting one filled with lots of fun and learning to look forward to.

3/4  CAMP RECOUNTS:

Alexandra Adventure Resort By Jim

On Wednesday 26th of April all the 3/4  students arrived at school for camp. Here are the teachers that came too, Mrs Stock, Mrs Crozbie, Niky and Molly. In the morning at 8:30 we left for a 2hr bus drive. I sat next to Noah. Once we got to Euroa we stopped for a toilet break and a little snack then we all hopped back on the bus for another 1h. When we got there everyone was so excited. We all hopped off the bus and put our bags under a tree and sat around a little fire pit. Then Tim came and explained a few things to us all and then Mrs Stock told us our rooms. After we all went to set up our beds and then we all went to the outdoor eating area.

Firstly, our first activity for group 2 was the giant swing. We all had to put a harness on. While everyone pulled me up, I got a great view. I stopped about nearly half way when Tim pulled the rope and let me go. I was swinging all over the place, then Tim stopped and took my harness off. There were a range of activities. My three favorites were the flying fox, crate stacking and raft building and my favourite meal was hotdogs.

Lastly, on Friday night after dinner we all headed into this big movie room and we all went crazy because Mrs Stock told us to move the couches. We were watching Cloudy with a chance of meatballs. After a little bit Mrs Stock and Molly came around with a bag of chips and a little lolly bag. After the movie we all went back to the cabins and brushed our teeth and went to bed.

Early in the morning Mrs Stock came in with music and woke us all up. Everyone was rushing trying to pack their bags and brush their teeth. Then we all went for breakfast and had toast and scrambled eggs. After everyone was finished, we all headed outside to the Gaga ball pit and played the Gaga ball championship. I was in the championship but I got out in about the top four and surprisingly Scarlett won a full chocolate bar. Then we all took our bags to a tree then the bus arrived.

After the bus arrived, we all put our bags under the bus and got ready for a long trip back to school.

After about an hour we stopped at a little park and had lunch. Then we had a little stretch, then we all hopped back on the bus. About an hour later we finally arrived at school and everyone was so excited.

To sum up, it was the most fun and best camp I’ve ever been on. The food was great and the activities were awesome. Everything was awesome!

3/4 Alexandra Resort Camp By Colt. T

I woke up with a spring in my step then got my bags and chucked them in the back. Then I went  off to school and everyone was there. Then I chucked my bags in the back of the bus and then I sat next to my friend. It was a two hour drive but it was worth it when we got there.

When we got to camp, we got our bags off the bus and we had lunch. I had popcorn and my friend had a salad roll and it looked delicious.

After lunch, Tarzan, our instructor, gave us a tour of the camp.

After that we had to unpack in our cabin. In my cabin I had Hugh, Jack, Scott, Hamish, Isaac and Xavier.

The first night we went on a night walk and then the second day we went on the giant swing and we did orienteering. The giant swing was the best and I went backwards. It was so much fun!

Then for lunch we had hot dogs and they were so delicious I wanted more. Even though I had two and a half

After we had free time in the cabins.

The dinner the first night was the best! It was chicken schnitzel with roasted potatoes and veggies. After dinner we went for a night walk and then we went to bed.

In the morning I had coco pops, toast and pancakes for breakfast. After breakfast we played Gaga ball and then raft building.

After morning tea we had the flying fox across the lake. It was super fun.

On our second night we had a movie with chips and chocolate. We watched ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2’.

The next morning, we had breakfast and then had to pack up our cabins. We played one more Gaga ball game and had a couple of photos before hopping on the bus.

It was two hours back to school with a break half way for some lunch. I had a salad roll. It was delicious. Then we hopped back on the bus and when we got back I saw my baby brother. He was so excited to see me.

It was the best camp. My favourite activity was the giant swing and the food was delicious!

3/4 Camp By Denzil

On Wednesday the 26th of April, all the year 3/4 students gathered at school to head off on their school camp to Alexandra Adventure resort. My favourite thing was Archery because you could shoot bow and arrows. The things that I didn’t like were the low ropes because they were small and boring. I loved when we watched a movie and had food. That was the best night ever. We watched Flint Lockwood and I loved it, and I fell asleep. I had the best camp ever.

Grade 3/4 Camp By Charlotte

On Wednesday the 26th of April all the grade 3/4 students said their goodbyes to their parents and they were off to camp for two nights and three days.

There were four teachers: Mrs Stock, Mrs Crosbie, Molly and Nicky. On our way there we had a quick stop at Euroa for a snack and a toilet break and then we got back on the bus.

We arrived at camp at 11: 00 and Tim ,our instructor, took us around the camp to show us where everything was and then we put our bags in our cabins.

My three favourite activities were the giant swing because you went up high, the zip line because you went over a lake and lastly the crate stacking because you got to step up on crates and knock them down. At camp we also got a lot of food.

My favourite meal was schnitzel and veggies and juice. We also had dessert and my favourite was the ice cream and topping.

It was Friday and it was time to go home and we were all exhausted and excited to see our families again. We said goodbye to camp and we were on our way home. We stopped in Euroa to have a roll and some chips and played a game of everybody's. After this we headed back on the bus and continued to drive back to school. We arrived back at school and all our parents were there to pick us up.

It was the best ever!

Grade 5-6 Miss Rasmussen

The Grade 5/6 class have been working hard since returning for Term 2. We were really proud of Caleb, Mia, Deklen and Zac who spoke at the ANZAC Day service.

In English, we have begun writing our speeches for the Lions Club Public Speaking Competition. The topic about world records has been really interesting to research and we have found some impressive and wacky records that have been set over the years.

In maths, we have developed our knowledge of subtraction using carrying and regrouping. The saying 'more on the floor, go next door' has helped us consolidate this understanding.

We have started our leadership responsibilities. This week, each group completed important leadership tasks:

Media - Interview students for the newsletter, create a video reflection of the Grade 3/4 camp.

PBIS - Create a video about respecting sports equipment. Ensure that all teachers have a good supply of tokens for distribution.

Sport - Work with teachers and students to develop football rules. Audit of the equipment that is available at breaks.

Catholic Identity/Sustainability - plant seedlings in veggies patches, mulch veggie patch, research requirements for plants planted and clean out chook yard.

We really enjoyed the Cross Country and were impressed with how many amazing runners we have in our class.
