Karoonda Park Camp
Year 8 camp ran for the week from May 23rd. We went to Karoonda Park, near Gelantipy and went on a cave tour at Buchan on the way. Looking at the cave formations was interesting, particularly as we studied them as a part of our Humanities classes last term.
Everyone enjoyed the setting and activities at Karoonda Park. We had koalas in the trees around camp.
The zip line, abseiling, waterfall walks were highlights of the camp activities. Staff were impressed with the way students attempted the activities even when they felt challenged by them. We had a great day out at the Snowy River. We drove there above the clouds so didn’t really get to see the mountains until the cloud cover had lifted for the return trip. All students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the white water rafting down the river and warming up with lunch at the campfire afterwards. We also enjoyed a big bonfire on our last night at camp. We all got to know each other better over the week and overall, we had a great camp!
The students who remained at school completed a range of engaging tasks based around the themes of Disney Pixar’s film The Incredibles. Highlights of the week included a persuasive writing escape room, maths games and minute to win it activities. Students practised great teamwork skills and also worked independently to earn a hot chip lunch reward.
Elevate Study Skills
Year 8 students recently participated in an Elevate study skills session. This was the second part of the program. The focus was on time management and organisation. The learning will be followed up in Form Group and other classes.
