Marriage & Family Week

Next week will mark the celebration of Marriage and Family Week in the Catholic Church. This year the dates for Marriage and Family week have been altered to coincide with the 10th World Meeting of Families which will take place 22 – 26 June 2022 in a multicentric form, with Rome as the main location. During this week in the Armidale Diocese, Bishop Michael Kennedy has requested that all students in Catholic schools have a lesson with a specific focus on “Family” during Marriage and Family Week. This year's theme is called “Family love: a vocation and a path to holiness” which highlights family love as a vocation and as a way of holiness, so as to understand and share the profound and salvific meaning of family relationships in daily life.

To celebrate this special week of the Catholic Church, you might like to complete the Amoris Cube Family Activity (see below for information), pray the official Marriage and Family Week Prayer with your family through the week at home (see below) or you might like to attend the Marriage and Family Week Mass for Families at the Guyra Parish Church on Sunday 26th June at 9:00am. This mass will be followed by a morning tea for families and parish members. Please bring a plate of food to share with our families in the Parochial Hall.

THE AMORIS CUBE

Family love: a vocation and a path to holiness

The Amoris Cube is a great activity for the whole family to engage with during Marriage and Family Week. This activity will assist families to show love and have open conversation and prayer that focuses on six key messages:

- Thank you! Is there somebody that I should say thank you to for something kind they did to me? What can I say thank you to God for?- I’m sorry…is there something I have said or done to somebody that I want to put right and say ‘sorry’ for?- ‘Spend some time with… ‘is there somebody from our wider family I haven’t seen in a while? Is there an older person in our family or neighbourhood that I could visit and chat with?- Let’s pray for…is there somebody or something we want to pray for now or during this week?- How can I help? Make a difference … ls there something I can do to make life better for those around me and to help more at home? Is there somebody I can show a kindness to or ask if I can be of help to them?- Be the first to love! Is there somebody I have fallen out with where I can be the first to reach out to and try to make up with? Is there someone that others are not including where I can be the one to reach out and make friends?
