Principal's News
This week we celebrate Marriage and Family Week across our diocese. It is normally celebrated early in Term 3 but has been brought forward this year to coincide with the 10th World Meeting of Families in Rome. You can read more about Marriage and Family Week on our Religious Education page.
Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
Every year all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). At St Joseph's we make adjustments for all students whether they require extra learning support in the classroom or have an imputed or diagnosed learning need or physical condition. Most students have a Personalised Plan that sets out these adjustments and sets short-term goals. This is reviewed each term in consultation with parents and CSO staff. The NCCD asks schools to identify information already available such as the type of disability and the supports and adjustments that are in place. The NCCD will have no direct impact on the children. Pauline Hawkins, CSO Inclusion Team Leader, is working with us to prepare the data for the Commonwealth Government.

The Semester 1 reports have been sent home. Don't forget to contact Lisa to book an appointment for a Parent-Teacher Interviews.
Reporting On Learning
We have copies of the Parents Guide to the NSW Primary Syllabuses (incorporating the Australian curriculum) available for parents and this could be useful when viewing your child’s report.
In the Common Grade scale A-E, a grade of C describes a student who has sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills for the stage of learning they are in at this point in time. We are also mandated to use the Common Grade Scale.
Common Grade scale A-E | |
---|---|
A | The student has extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations. |
B | The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills in most situations. |
C | The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills. |
D | The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills. |
E | The student has an elementary knowledge and understanding in a few areas of the content and has achieved very limited competence |
The Semester Report should be read in light of the skills that your child can demonstrate independently and the growth they have shown in the first half of this year.
