Artwork in 4/5 de Lacy - The Eastern Spinebill

The Eastern Spinebill inhabits shrubs in open eucalypt forests, as well as shrubland, heathland and suburban gardens. They use their long, slender, decurved bills to probe deep into flowers to feed on the sweet nectar. 4/5 de Lacy have a special appreciation for God's beautiful creation and completed some amazing drawings of the Eastern Spinebill in Art this week.

Hothouse Hydroponics

The College has been successful with our application for a 2022 Woolworths Junior Landcare Grant for our project, 'Hothouse Hydroponics'.

The aim of our project is to learn about sustainable gardening through hydroponics in our hothouse. The children will be involved in monitoring, draining and cleaning nutrient solution, measuring ph, planting and harvesting. The expected (environmental and educational) outcomes of the project include: Students learning about prime conditions in which to grow various plants in Tasmania, biodiversity, companion planting, sustainability and resource management (especially water), the life cycle of plants, and healthy eating.

Southern Christian College is one of 1,054 primary schools and early learning centres throughout Australia receiving a Woolworths Junior Landcare grant to help grow our next generation of environmental champions.

The children and teachers are looking forward to working and learning from this project and we will keep you updated on the results.
