2022 SSATIS Cross Cross Report
The SSATIS Cross Country event began with the Bridgewater Jerry providing conditions that could be described as positively Antarctic. The students endured temperatures of 3-4°C until the sun burned off the fog at about 11:30am. Despite the cold, all students competed in their races to the best of their ability, with some declaring they performed better than they expected. The value of the training for our school Cross Country was evident in the performances.
The way our students encouraged and supported one another throughout was a highlight. Asked to reflect on their experience, students identified the characteristics of persistence and perseverance as the main learnings from their efforts under cold weather conditions and a strong competitive field of runners. Another key learning area was the importance of bringing and wearing more uniform items to keep warm!
Amongst the fantastic efforts of all SCC runners, there were a couple of top 10 finishers in strong fields of 70-80 participants. Eliana de Weys finished ninth and Connor Hennessy came in fifth in their respective events. We also had a strong result from our Grade 10 boys running team who placed 5th out of 10 schools.
Congratulations to all in the team for their performances and the resilience they displayed. All students in the team positively represented them themselves and the school throughout the day. Well done to all.
