The Year 5 Showcase

The Year 5s were excited to showcase all the tremendous research and amazing effort poured into our Year 5 Showcase on ‘How the World Works’. Competing for time against NAPLAN and moderation reporting, the children had a small window of time to complete their research and a put together their visual presentations.

Once again, we would like to thank all the family members, carers and parents who attended on the day, to help us celebrate. After a couple of years not being able to gather, it was a wonderful experience for our students who thoroughly enjoyed presenting their knowledge of natural disasters. Thank you all for supporting us with the showcase, we were overwhelmed by the turnout from our BNPS community.

We hope you enjoy some reflections and photos of from our showcase.

I learnt about volcanos and in specific the mount UNZEN eruption in 1792. My solution was a vacuum that sucks up volcanic ashes then compresses them into volcanic ash rocks. By sucking up the ashes it will prevent air pollution and will protect people from breathing problems from the smoke. I was most proud of my PowerPoint because I put a lot of time and effort into it. I felt I was knowledgeable because I put hours into researching volcanos.

I learnt about earthquakes. New Zealand is often affected by earthquakes.

It can break buildings, roads, trees and farmland. They can also kill people and make them go homeless. My solution was a large farm made of rubber to shake with the earthquake and keep the food inside edible. I was very proud of my display feature that I used to display facts and images.

I learnt about sandstorms and the region that was affected is Texas and Oklahoma. My solution was a wind metre so it tracks the wind and when it goes above 35 kilometres a siren goes off to evacuate. I was principled when I had no-one at my stall I didn't act sill and play with my friends. I am most proud of my model because I only had a limited amount of time to make it. I was principled when I had no-one at my stall I didn't act sill and play with my friends.
