Year 2 News

It’s lots of fun in Year 2

There’s been so much happening in Year 2 and the students have been completely engaged in their learning. It’s been a very busy term with many fun activities and lots of valuable learning opportunities. We are so proud of all the Year 2 students and hope they have a well-deserved rest over the holidays.

Literacy

The students have been learning about adjectives and have completed a range of activities to consolidate their understanding.

Last week the students were all ask to choose an animal jigsaw puzzle containing many interesting facts about their chosen animal including many descriptive words. The first part of the task was for the students to cut out the 9 pieces of their jigsaw puzzle and stick it back together in their English books.

The students then had to write an information report on their chosen animal using the information on their puzzle pieces focusing on the adjectives. The students identified the adjectives in their reports by circling them.

Finally, the students had the opportunity to share their reports with the rest of the class. The students loved this activity and enjoyed sharing their findings. We hope you enjoy listening to the some of the students reading their work and viewing the photos.

Inquiry

WHERE WE ARE IN PLACE AND TIME

THE PAST INFLUENCES OUR PRESENT AND FUTURE

There was a buzz of excitement last week as the Year 2 students all migrated to another country. The students were asked to bring 5 special items that they would like to take in a suitcase if they were to migrate to another country.

Firstly, the students had to fill in their information in their passports complete with a photo of themselves. Next the students were given a luggage tag to fill in. Finally, the students were given the box that their school supplies came in at the beginning of the year to decorate as their suitcases. They hung their luggage tags on their bags added coloured paper and various country labels and travel pictures. Then the students added their five special items they brought from home.

We were ready to migrate to another country. All the students had their passports stamped as they left the classroom. All four Year 2 classes set off in different directions around the school carrying their suitcases and passports. We had to go through customs and then through security where Mrs Duffy checked to make sure the students didn’t have anything illegal or dangerous in their luggage.

The smiles on the student’s faces said it all. There were squeals of excitement, laughter and lots of chatter. The student’s final destination was a different year 2 classroom to their own. They sat in a circle with their suitcases open and all shared two of the items they brought from home and why.

It was such a wonderful experience for the students. We hope you enjoy viewing our videos and photos of the day.
